Unforgiven

I understand it's status as a great western, but I found it a bit slow. It still has some fantastic scenes and dialogue.

Pretty damn good dark gritty fucked up western movie. Gene Hackman doesn't dissapoint, as always, Clint Eastwood makes the ending pretty sweet, at least for me. Richard Harris is also damn cool as an eccentic Briton killer, Morgan Freeman does a decent job with his role and doesn't really impress me, as he normally does and the tiny "killer" is just around for laughs.

I was entirely too young to be taken to this in the theaters as a child by my parents. Hence, one of my fondest memories.

Simply brilliant. The western genre came back in a big way with this film. It's a genius concept really: All those characters Eastwood played in Westerns...gets old. Simple, and highly effective.

Perhaps the most definitive of Clint Eastwood's films, intensely gripping and it doesn't pull any punches. This seems like the movie Eastwood was always meant to make.

Magnificent western which could have been named a A Fistful of Morals if a somewhat similar title was not used 30 years earlier. Hackman brilliantly plays the just (he even enforces a gun ban!) yet extremely violent sheriff. Eastwood and Freeman do splendidly as the classic pair of cowboy 'heros'. Unforgiven is a movie in which one looses sight of good and bad, hero and villain (hero: the innocent associate of the abuser, who interfered and offered the victim his pony as a reparation, RIP).

A near-perfect subversion of classic western genre tropes, the ways we perceive violence, & the defining of a legend. The hero is past his time & the girl is a premature grave. The law is upheld but enforced with blind brutality. Violence isn't satisfying & vengeance isn't freeing. Killing a man isn't becoming a man but the robbing of a man of "everything he's got and everything he's ever gonna have".

pretty good flick for a western

Eastwood and Hackman redefine western mythology. It doesn't get any better than that.

A curious deconstruction of traditional Western tropes, marred by uneven pacing and poor indoor lighting (although the outdoor shots are quite breathtaking). Eastwood's performance is a little too self-aware, but Hackman's steals the show.

This is a tense and gripping watch at times. Its relatively atmospheric and features decent solid characterisation, although its a slow builder, plot wise, its worth a watch if your a fan of Clint. This is by no means a constant action type watch but it does contain some decent confrontations at times and its a good example of a Western film, in my opinion.

I don't know what riding around on a horse when you're eighty years old does to your prostate, but it can't be good. Ultimately, this turns out to be the lesson of the movie.

This movie roars louder with the unchained energy of the wildest beasts of all creation. Eastwood, Freeman and Hackman! Blows your skull open!

I had a dream where Clint Eastwood gave me a handshake telling me to watch this movie. In hindsight my subconscience was probably dying to see this too because Morgan Freeman was also in my dream but I didn't get to speak to him :'C I wasn't bout to disapoint Clint. Great movie.

I should have watched this movie long ago. Eastwood at the top of his game.

Solid Western. Good story-telling and interesting characters. Felt a little Rambo-ish for the level of grit they were going for. The dialogue was maybe silly in some parts too. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would tho - B

A startlingly dark film centered around a character from a violent background who seems not to have come to terms with his past. It deprives us too of closure with its ending. Has some beautiful nature shots, however.

Slightly boring on a rewatch for the first time in 30 years. Some nice scenery shots. I agree with David Thomson about it being an exercise in hand-washing

A very dark western. One of my favorite westerns.

It's quite an impressive re-imagining of the classic western. There is no black and white morality here, everything is a shade of grey. It's kind of hard to think anyone here is fully in the right. Although I do have to admit, Little Bill was really annoying and seems almost just as corrupt a character as any of them. We don't have a hero riding off into the sunset here, simply a survivor riding off into the stormy night.

One of my all time favorite movies. The transformation from Clint Eastwood from an awkward pig farmer to a bad ass killer is just amazing. Awesome movie.

Morality can be debatable especially when a guy has changed through out the years. A story with no real villain nor hero except for a persons past. Re-watchable: Yes

Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven walks a line of moral ambiguosity that makes you wonder who should have walked out of the final stand-off alive. Unforgiven is one of the last classic westerns, beautifully directed and with great performances by Hackamn, Freeman and Eastwood yet I can't help that it only touched the surface of some themes. The movie seemed shallow at times and didn't really explore any themes that deeply. All-in-all a very high-class popcorn movie that you could watch more than once.

Pros: Proof that Clint Eastwood never gets old, no matter how old he gets. Amazing director. Still the definition of cool anti-hero. Contrasts his earlier Westerns by reflecting on the dangers of violence and vengeance rather than celebrating pure action for action’s sake. Shows that legends are often highly overrated and their subjects are human and flawed. Haunting performances, memorable scenes. Cons: None

The other side of the western movies, much more drama and less shooting, Clint Eastwood still in bad-ass shape, and the few shooting it got, are awesome, must watch for clint fans and western fans all over the word.

Deeply immersive and extremely well-written, Unforgiven is a film that accepts the term 'Western' merely as its setting, offering up first and foremost a character study with violence as its main theme. Superb performances from just about everyone on board, and beautifully shot.

The rare western that actually cares more about people than shootouts. Not that the shootouts are lacking

I feel this film has been a little forgotten since it came out. This is the classic modern western. Brilliant film making, direction and acting. A must see.
