All the characters are completely unmotivated, (especially Russell Crowe's). Just misogynistic angry none-sense.

It pretty much delivers what you’d expect, including the cheesy one liner. And while it does feel closer to Ma (a meh film with a great lead) than it does Joyride (a smart and fun thriller), it manages to have a couple of surprisingly creative moments. Although those are a bit offset by Russell Crowe’s impressive ability to murder in public with zero repercussions. If this took place in Texas, it’d probably be a lot shorter. Worth renting if it’s of interest.

Gotta love the enthusiasm for killing people just to make a point on politeness. Here's a random excerpt of crowe's phone call with derrick borte: "...and wouldn't it be awesome if I got really fat for this role? I mean, that'd fit perfectly, right?" - "hm, haven't really thought about that...yeah, why not? Think you could pull that o..?" - "wayyy ahead of ya!"

Sufficiently terrifying at times. The guy was barely holding back another violent eruption that is unleashed when the next person offends his sense of civility and then utterly refuses to be conciliatory about it. It really makes you think about the importance of courtesy and respect. Words matter people! It was a little ironic that after all the carnage and loss, the woman was still full of righteous indignation. A wild scary ride. Worthwhile.

Not a great script - rife with implausibilities and cliches (in fact it coincided with another worthwhile nod to "Duel" which came out in 2020, "Alone"), but the breakneck pace of its action and brutality combined with immaculate performances from Crowe and Pistorius, make this easily the most tooth-grindingly thrilling movie of the year.

Most of all, I appreciated the constant attempts of the characters to contact the police or get to a police station. That's the logical human response - take a note, movies! Overall, Unhinged is thrilling and suspenseful, with the right amount of violence.

"Exploitative fun" sums up Unhinged. Without Crowe, even the gore and dumb sadism probably couldn't save it, but here he is, larger than life (does anyone else remember his skinny naked ass in Virtuosity??) slamming his way through the movie, punching, stabbing, crashing with an exultant, drawling, "Oh yeah!"

This started as a legit 75-80 in the first ten minutes; it built this great tone and cranked up a cacophony of anxiety-inducing media. I was kinda in... and then the movie starts, and ballooned-up Russell Crowe spends 90 minutes being inexplicably elusive to police (possibly including teleportation), while Caren Pistorius makes as many bad decisions as possible given her situation. This quickly chewed up any goodwill it had with me, taking its place among many other unidentifiable "thrillers".

My half a year long Corona-caused cinema-celibacy was bookended by The Invisible Man and Unhinged... Seems quite fitting, and may be partly why I enjoyed this slick but by-the-numbers B-movie as much as I did. Another reason is Russell Crowe who knows exactly what kind of movie he's in, and has a ball.

The long awaited ShogunRua biopic. Crowe is great as a psychotic MRA, and the movie is entertaining while unveiling the extent of his madness. But the third act is just so unabashedly stock, that any enjoyment I felt prior was supplanted by a yawning emptiness as I realized I was watching a commodity. It's good to be back in the cinema again but this wasn't really worth the money.
