There is no way a better movie could have been made about this subject. There are no "Hollywood type heroes", there are no politics or patriotic bullshit, and there is no false dramatization (like Titanic or any other disaster movie). This is as close to Documentary as it gets, and while being almost a documentary, this is the most emotional rollercoaster you will see all year. From feeling hopelesness in the beginning to absolutely terrified in the end, this is one of the best movies I have e

Unbelievable, shocking, true story. The biggest, powerful nation of the world in a real turmoil, helpless, attacked by terrorists with knifes. I must confess that it was a ingenious and well-thought plan of the terrorists, and where was Bush ? Maybe the coward sat down on the toilet.

An absolutely amazing movie. I was spellbound, enthralled, and ENRAGED. I think the director and cast really did put aside the showbiz glitz and glamour and captured the real moment for a change. I really feel they honored those who lost their lives and their families. I challenge anyone who watches not to be moved to tears. This film should be required viewing for the leagues of milquetoast liberals who cry crocodile tears for the poor misunderstood murdering scumbags.

It's like 2 straight hours of a heart attack. Excellent in almost all of its aspects, specially the editing and cinematography. In the end, it shows that we're all human beings and things like this could happen to any of us.

Almost a pseudo-documentary (which does not mean that there is not a pronounced mythological element, nor that the filmmakers have not made some historically dubious narrative choices), this film is impressive and affecting, but doesn't really have characters, a film-making decision that has pros and cons.

Very well handled, and extremely powerful. When 9/11 actually happened, I don't think I had any real emotional reaction to the disaster other than "bummer", but here it strips away any connections you might have had with the event, and it just puts you onto the doomed aircraft. Some character development might have been done better, but chances are it would have ended up hurting it.

This is just genius. The tempo is unstoppable. The documentary style is terrific. The editing is brilliant. And their was no over-the-top action involved. ... During the whole movie I think my heartbeat was an average 120.

Depicts the tragic events of 9/11 respectably, and it's an exquisite yet severly fierce, narrative journey about the account of the hijacking of the last plane in the notorious terrorist attacks on the day of September 11th, 2001. Greengrass reincarnates and retells the events like no other, and everything falls into place in an outstanding manner. It's truly his own version of the incident. A must-see.

Extremely well made mokumentary. Very realistic, my stomach was in knots for the last third. If I'm half as heroic in the position that the passengers were, I'd be proud.

Powerful and harrowing. The decision to use lesser-known actors (and in some cases, people are actually playing themselves) was absolutely right: one "big name" actor (*cough* Nicolas Cage *cough*) would have fucked the whole thing up. I was surprised by how primitive the air traffic control situation is.

With flat, decisive style, Greengrass take the most wrenching day in recent U.S. history and turns it into a procedural. Rather than staying with the harrowing airphone conversations and back row plotting in the jet, Greengrass gives equal focus to those on the ground working nondescript jobs as air traffic controllers or with the FAA as they gradually become aware that history is unfolding on their workstations. The film provokes personal rediscovery of the lingering feelings about that day.

Very few films these day carry a true emotional punch. Most emotions are forced onto us, some are layered with a heavy hand. Not so with united 93. Those who can vividly remember the events of 9/11, no matter where they were in the world, will know the shock and disbelief they felt. The problem with the tragic events was that it was predictable that Hollywood would get its hands on the day that changed the world. Enter Paul Greengrass.
Mr Greengrass is a blazing talent that has made his name

Greengrass makes an outstanding job, relating the popular tragic story about the United 93 flight, with a style very near to the documentary. Brave and touching. It's worth it.

I notice that the majority of critics tripping over each other to praise United 93 are American. This movie is complete drivel, an exercise in masochism. I'm shocked that family members of the "heroes" of United 93 supported this turd.

A tense, heart-breaking movie. You know what happens and you know why but it doesn't seem to matter. Greengrass did what he could. You can say it should not have been made, but it has been, and at least Greengrass understood WHY it should be made.

Rather decent film, but I fear that far too many jumped on the movie as being the best of 2006, just because of the subject matter and the manner in which it was dealt with (i.e. not so heavy handed like WTC)

I believe this movie is a bit overrated and it plays more like an in-depth up-close documentary rather than a movie (aside from the last 20-30 minutes). Still a solid viewing experience.

A for-real, no bullshit portrayal of what could've possibly happened on flight 93. Doesn't exploit the disaster as a vehicle to push any kind of hidden agenda or inappropriate "patriotic rally" message through cheesy dialogue or the like. I feel as though one can really appreciate and respect this movie for being as non-capitalizing as it is.

That rare narrative film that stays so grounded and utterly objective that it nearly qualifies as "docu-drama." I don't know if I ever want to watch it again, but it's definitely a must watch and the finest 9/11 film to date by miles and miles.

Harrowing. I avoided it forever in fear it would be a flag-waving dramatization with a crying bald eagle for a closing shot. For that movie, see World Trade Center. This is something else entirely, and it doesn't feel 'too soon'. If anything, now more than ever it's important to remember just what we all felt that day, so we can retrace the journey from there, to the mess we're in now. The finale is perhaps the saddest, most shocking and heartbreaking thing I've ever seen on film.

Pretty goddamn difficult to watch but just as hard not to think about. Rarely do movies so effortlessly capture what it must have felt like to be there at this particular moment in history. It also reiterates that it is both too soon and long enough ago to feel like a dream.

Paul Greengrass escapes being pigeon-holed into the action genre by Hollywood and shoots a very docu-drama movie that will be eternally connected with this decade in cinema history this side of ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN for the 1970s.

I didn't think I'd be affected by this (it IS a movie, even if it's very realistic) but I was still pretty shaken by the end. Greengrass went out of his way to portray this in a way that wouldn't exploit those killed, and not cheese it up with GI Joe America bullshit.

Masterpiece, in a word. Salient, spellbinding and not in the least contrived, which I was afraid of beforehand. And I am European, by the way, and I'd hope, less inclined to any 9/11 nostalgia which could supposedly obscure my judgment.

I came in expecting preachy, maudlin, jingoistic nonsense. I came out sweaty and breathless, feeling as if I'd just been kicked in the solar plexus. This movie makes no statement other than "we're fucked." And it makes it in bold, 20 foot high letters. By the way: will the truthers please fuck off. We know we're all sheeple, great, now go jerk yourselves off somewhere else.

Given the subject matter at hand this is probably the best film it could be. Greengrass is an expert at conjuring up a feel of realism, and it serves this movie well. So too does the brave decision to hire unknown actors in all parts. Sadly, Greengrass also displays why there is a difference between film and reality and the "too many characters you know too little" problem shows its ugly head when the credits are rolling.

Casting unknown actors in all roles and the focusing on the collective effort of both the flight controllers and the passengers on board United 93, Greengrass wisely avoids turning this into a story of just one or two brave, patriotic americans fighting evil. The fact that the movie has a high number of characters and that you don't learn much about them, somehow brings old Soviet cinema, where the collective and not the individual was the hero, to mind.

Potent and sobering, United 93 is even more gut-wrenching because the outcome is already known. While difficult to watch, director Paul Greengrass' film has been made with skill and treats the subject matter with respect, never resorting to the aggrandizement of which Hollywood has sometimes been accused. Especially effective is the cast of mostly unknown actors, who portray the passengers of the doomed flight as ordinary people who respond with bravery to extraordinary circumstances.
