They say time heals all wounds, actually you just need a couple bags of ice.

Having JCVD play a character that can't emote? That's pretty smart. The rest of this movie? Not so much.

Wow, this has dated horribly. The premise is solid as is the idea of casting acting duds like Van Damme and Lundgren as silent killing machines. Unfortunately, Lundgren gets to speak more towards the end, hamming it up as if there were no tomorrow. Van Damme settles for blandness throughout, the butt of many of Emmerich's ridiculous attempts at humour. Another major problem is Ally Walker's intolerable (and almost unbearably 90s) character.

At least Lundgren and Van Damme had an excuse for their typical bad acting in this movie...

JCVD does Terminator 2 with maximum 90s Hollywood cheese, cyberpunk tropes, and hard-R violence. How could I not enjoy it? Another great movie watching experience with friends.

I recall that around the time this movie was released people I knew claimed that Dolph Lundgren's brother worked at a video store in St Kilda. I gave the rumours little credence at the time, even though Dolph himself, as we know and as should always be remembered, has a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Sydney University (and was subsequently awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, which he did not take up due to having become romantically involved with Grace Jones), so I guess anything's possible.

Cliche stupidity but you know what? A Van Damme film will always be more fun than a Seagal film.

There are entertaining action moments to be had but the writing isn't good enough to make most of them meaningful and even though Lundgren and JCVD's acting is mitigated by the nature of their roles it still holds the film back. I can see how this could be fun for people, but there's just too much to overlook for me to be satisfied.

Perhaps the best movie by Emmerich...? Good, unclean fun and the power of the gaze demonstrated one, two, sevenhundredandninetyfive times with Van Damme skulking at Lundgren, Lundgren skulking back and so on and so forth. Oh, and they blow stuff up. And shoot people. In ridiculous ways, obviously.

It used to be much better 15 years ago. Sometimes I miss the way I used to appreciate movies. Now all I see in this film is bad direction, bad acting, bad story. Some lines of dialog made me laugh, but it ain't too much fun.

Loved this as a kid, but time has not been kind. But it's not all bad. Pre-Independence Day Emmerich delivers a film with some nice set-pieces and humour. JCVD is as terrible as ever, while Lundgren hams his way through every scene. One of the better JCVD films and certainly the best thing Emmerich has ever done.

Sublimely stupid. The only times it wasn't enjoyable was when it tried to resemble a passable film.

Top badass moment? The UniSol Truck is pretty badass. It's big, bad, green and belches out dry ice every time it stops and someone gets out of it. All it needed adding to it was a few machine guns and missile launchers. Considering the Universal Solider programme's meant to be top secret, it's the most unsubtle lorry I've seen since the F.L.A.G. Mobile Unit semi in "Knight Rider". No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Interesting setup and okay mindless action. Lundgren's indiscriminate killings were always a shock. JCVD actually delivers better lines than Dolph. Fav scene: Ally Walker throwing back live grenades while handcuffed on a moving bus.
