Unknown Island

A Lost World/King Kong clone with much less exciting special effects. We have dinosaurs and what looked like a demonic gorilla (allegedly a giant sloth), and they fight (or rather, press up against each other) unconvincingly even for the late 1940s. There are a lot of unlikeable characters in this one, and the romance subplot takes place much too quickly, meaning we don't care much for the female lead in the end either.

urassic World '48 with wonderful cheesy special effects of the era to match! Too rooted in B-movie land to be called great, but I found it more entertaining than its reputation would suggest, though some of that comes from its so-bad-it's-good elements. The things is, there wasn't many movies like this being made at the time, so it does stand-out among its contemporaries and Barton MacLane really did elevate the experience with a damn solid performance for such a movie.
