A fantastic documentary about a Buddhist monk who is sent on a quest to find the reincarnation of his dead master. The spiritual beliefs could be ripped to shreds by a viewer if they are very suspicious of spirituality, but one of the biggest reasons the film is brilliant is that the individuals we follow are so sincere, open and down to earth, far more than the stereotypical Western Christian, that you truly care about how important this task is.

A film of amazing serendipity. The conceit - a pupil finding his reincarnate master - has innumerable possibilities for success, and the filmmakers find every one of them. It's a coming-of-age and a walkabout, a film of intimacy and wonder, with some truly breathtaking footage of scenery and character. There is a profundity in seeing a disciple play with the toddler version of his spiritual teacher that I cannot adequately describe.

"As lovely as the elegiac music and breathtaking shots of the Tibetan countryside are in Unmistaken Child, they don't really move things along." - Lauren Wissot
