"It's all about precision". I'll say, "See it if you're looking for a loud action movie with some drama". In some places, the drama felt tacked on, unnecessary plot points and the like. And it was obnoxiously loud, like "Terminator:Salvation" loud. Maybe I'm just getting old, but when a movie is THAT loud it takes away from my enjoyment. Like I get it, it's a big train that's moving really fast, but jeez, that's just poor sound editing. And whoever choreographed the camerawork should be fired.

I don't know whether to emphasize that this is pretty damn solid entertainment or that it's 100 per cent seen before. Unabashedly conventional, it's one of the better action flicks in a while. It's a matter of how high one's tolerance level is for the predictable and the familiar, I suppose. You know who you are.

I'm trainspotter. I like trains. Though this flick was clear before it started. Nothing really surprising happened during the way. Denzel acted fine and Rosario Dawson was not that bad either. The constant moving camera was working trick, but it was used a bit too much. Passes the time.

It's Speed directed by Clint Eastwood: an old person about to retire teaches a young whippersnapper how to tame an out-of-control vehicle. It features director Tony Scott's usual tropes: an interracial buddy couple, cringeworthy machismo, and fast edits. But he's still a master at getting simple drama in between action. I just wish the info was presented better--especially Rosario Dawson's character & the Leonard Nimoy Marge vs. the Monorail Simpson's episode clone. Marginal recommendation.

Stupid as hell. If you tried to play a drinking game where every time the camera zooms in or pans around you would die of alcohol poisoning within 5 minutes. I just don't understand how anyone could possibly care about these characters. They blow and the movie ends exactly like you know it will when you first pop it in. A movie for the ADD generation. Personally, I like a scene to develop before I see a pointless explosion nigga

No matter how intense it tries to be, I can't really think that anyone would find trains exhilarating. Either way, it's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but don't actually intend on watching this. It's one of those movies that if it's on a plane you won't jump out, but that's about it.

As usual, Tony Scott uses every technique in the book (MTV editing, jitter-cam, heli-cam, reportage, manic percussion) to milk every last drop of tension from an extremely under-lactating premise. By definition, this movie's plot can only go in one direction. It's just a question of how many facepalm moments can be shunted in by the generic characters between this train's departure point and inevitable (static) destination. Buster Keaton would have had that thing stopped in time for elevenses.

Tony Scott delivers a straightforward thriller that plays in real time and makes the most out of a runaway train premise. With Chris Pine and Denzel Washington anchoring 'Unstoppable,' the movie is a brisk ride of kick-back suspense. It is rather refreshing to see Scott tone down the editing and pyrotechnics and simply tell a compelling story within a 90-minute window. Call it 'Speed' on a train, and almost as much fun.

Mistakes - 1) In the scene where the train hits the horse trailer, it knocks its left side light out. However each scene after that showing the train it has its right side light broken. 2) At the beginning of the movie, the controller tells the two guys to move a parked train. The two men are between two trains, and dependent on the shot, the one to the right of them is either moving or not.

Entertaining and fun. Certainly the best Tony Scott film to come out since Man on Fire. Odd considering I never thought a movie about trains could be really exciting. I can't deny I found it perplexing as to why Christ Pine had to make two dives from moving vehicles instead of them getting another guy but hey, that's movies for you.

Sure the acting from much of the cast was hammy at times, and a lot of the lines were just lame, the news report cutaways are far too numerous, and there is a bit too much "made-for-tv-action-movie-style" editing and slow motion, but there is also a lot to like here. The pacing is bang on, there is a genuine sense of suspense which builds gradually over the course of the film, Denzel Washington delivers a solid performance, and impressive sound editing conveys the sheer mass of the trains.

"My last movie involving a train sucked... must be because the train was standing still. Let's fix that!" A movie so insistingly one-noted that it almost manages to be a good movie because of it. Scott's biggest achievement here is managing to make a freight train travelling through rural Pennsylvania on a rainy day look that good.

Unstoppable is a film that's never boring, but never amounts to anything of substantiality. It's not exactly bad, but we've seen it all before and there's nothing to make it stand out from the crowd. Put it on in the background or when your mind isn't quite ready for a deeper film, and it will pass the time just fine, but if you're hoping for something new and exciting, Unstoppable won't satisfy.

Exciting action/disaster film (from always reliable director Scott) unfortunately clutters itself with needlessly complicated back stories for its characters in the first half, but redeems itself with first rate action scenes, and enjoyable performances from Pine and Washington. Clever use of media coverage to weave exposition into the screenplay; definitely a "disposable" film, but a cut above the average.

Unstoppable is a decent thriller with some fairly intense scenes. The script manages to squeeze a good bit of intensity out of people chasing a train but it remains a pretty mediocre experience, still. The cast is there to collect their paychecks and there's not much else for them to do here. It bides your time and you know what you're getting with a movie like this.

A little iffy with the melodramas and the obligatory corporate bad guys, but successfully maintains a high level of suspense for the better part of the movie. Best use of railroads since the '70s "Emperor of the North" & "The Silver Streak"\; trains are perhaps the most underused prop in Hollywood. because they're expensive, but it shows. We're probably gonna see more. I'm surprised they didn't loose some choppers filming it. Good previews. Used mostly stuff from the beginning.

But besides the last little bit, I wasn't really that involved with what I was watching. It was just loud and kind of tedious. Not a movie I hate but I'm not giving it a recommendation either. I started feeling a bit cynical about how a relatively mundane job like 'train driver' is hyped up to astronaut levels (I think Chris Pine had less ballbreaking training in his role as Captain Kirk) but as things get rolling (ha!) the movie becomes very exciting and well, thrilling. It never goes beyond functional but really you can't complain when a movie achieves nothing more than what it set out to do.

I liked this one for the most part. There were a few moments where my mind drifted off to something else instead of focusing on the story. This really feels like a lot of other movies, most especially "Speed" although the acting is much better. I will say that there are some THRILLING parts to this movie. I gripped my armrest a lot tighter as the movie moved along. A fun ride but has been done over and over again. I love when Denzel is in charge. Pine also did pretty well.

(Viewed in 2011): Scott's swansong is good old fashioned entertainment and one of his best films. It's a high octane runaway train spectacle in which two ordinary rainroad workers engage in a nail biting race against time to prevent a monumental disaster. Washington and Pine have obvious chemistry, and there are many thrilling scenes of collisions and near misses conveyed by a tremendously visceral sound design and Scott's formal ingenuity, which has rarely been better.

Actually I thought this film about a huge-ass train on the loose was very entertaining. It was not a good film, but for me it was a prime example of the distinction between 'good films' and 'fun films'. Unstoppable is good fun and worth a watch, but it's fairly generic and nothing particularly groundbreaking. The set pieces are exciting, but the segments in between are dull and feature too much unnecessary character development. Denzel Washington is as reliable as ever but Chris Pine's involvement feels somehwat pointless. Just Denzel Washington alone would have been sufficient. Tony Scott impressively directs and builds the tension, but this blatantly steals from 1985's 'Runaway Train'.

Watchable but surpassingly hokey rah-rah 80's style adventure movie balderdash. The kind of movie in which the heroes pause mid-rescue to emote at each other about their families/regrets, and everybody gathers at the neighborhood Hooters to pump their fists and cheer at the breathless reporters covering all the action as it happens. Packs a few enjoyable retro kicks, but if it didn't exist, we wouldn't have to invent it.

So I watched this due to some coverage of it on a sound design website, and sure enough that lone element held some interest, a creative bright spot persevering in the face of extreme idiocy. Otherwise, Unstoppable feels oddly out of time, like it was made in an era before every single other thing here was crafted from the rotting undead flesh of cliche. And try as he might, Scott is unable to fully disguise the fact that his trains appear to be running at 1/3 their advertised speeds.
