The Denbow family hope to freeze out homesteaders by denying access across their land; but to evade a murder charge, Glenn Denbow marries the only witness, Jane, who's conveniently in love with him, but favors the settlers. When Glenn goes back to his blackmailing old flame Lottie, a warm regard develops between Jane and cousin Kirk Denbow. Not the most significant western ever made, but it's got its strong points. Mainly the strong woman played by Shelley Winters, and Joseph Cotten knows how to carry himself in an environment like this. This was also the first attempt Universal did trying out the dark haired beauty Suzan Ball a star. She was related to Lucille Ball, and appeared a few pictures between 1952 and 1955, but then she got cancer, amputated her leg and died at the age of 21.
