For some reason kept reminding me of that classic Japanese serial, Oshin. Main character develops into a strong woman, well able to look after herself after finding herself stronger than the men she chose to help her navigate Japan's strongly patriarchal society. Takamine makes this. IMO slow and confusing as it starts but just keeps on getting better. Watch.
