I have heard the death rattle of found footage roll out of the industry's throat, and it is the sound of VHS: Viral.

Video/'Horror'/Suckiness. The wraparound story is vague and unengaging. The magician stuff was goofy and unengaging. The doorway stuff was neat apart from the sockpuppet-bodypart-part. Skaterstuff seemed to approach some sort of story idea but then didn't and became unengaging. So all in all a big fat apathetic 'meh'.

I enjoyed the first two parts of the series (V/H/S and V/H/S 2), but I think I would tape over this entire installment with episodes of Tales from the Crypt or the Golden Girls. Probably the Golden Girls.

Shit, utter shit. I didn't want to give this movie such a low rating, but I genuinely could not think of a single thing I enjoyed about it.

Easily the worst VHS series movie so far. Wraparound story is barely watchable, annoyingly edited nonsense. The short about magician's cloak is painfully amateurish. Second short with parallel universes is probably the only worthwhile bit here, at least it left my jaw hanging at the fuckedupness of it. I was curious to see Benson's short, because I really digged his feature film - Resolution. His short with skaters was most fun to watch, but nothing impressive.

The framing story is incomprehensible, and only one of the stories is better than mediocre (the alternate universe one). This is the weakest entry in the series so far, by far.

The portal one was cool and is worth checking out. I remember the Skeleton one being okay but don't actually remember what happened beyond they skateboarded and killed easy to kill skeletons. The Magician one and the wraparound story are both awful.

What happened to this series? The magician's cape felt ripped from a Goosebumps episode (oh no, a spooky coat!), and while it had the right amount of goofiness, it was average at best. This is the high of the film. Bonestorm felt like I was watching someone play a boring first-person shooter, but if the characters were annoying teenagers. The framing story is incomprehensible.

The VHS movies have never been great movies. Usually there's one or two segments that rise above the rest of the garbage, but normally it's never more than the sum of its parts. With Viral, however, every single segment is garbage. Every single one. Bottom of the barrel, middle school level writing is what's going on here. Half the time I couldn't tell what was a joke and what wasn't - especially the magician's story, which has the production quality of a youtube web series.

"I bet people would pay to watch me cut your dick off" - The quality line in this movie was surprisingly not delivered in an Oscar worthy performance like one would suspect. The V/H/S series has always been hit or miss, but the 3rd and final V/H/S movie is somehow able to miss every single time. It's a talent really. Most shorts have an interesting premise, but fail to deliver in any form of execution. Also not scary at all. Not even jump scares.

Death cloak: the cloak that eats people. Segments this time around are much more based on humor and irony with the usual level of quality hit/miss. Problem is, we're now also having failed expectations since there's a lack of actual horror. The "viral" theme could've been fantastic but it's just wasted here. Hopefully, the next group of directors will cue off of VHS2's Safe Haven.

Easily the worst in the trilogy but still alright. First segment is badly made but really fun Second segment is legit good Third segment starts well but loses steam The wraparound segment is the worst film I've seen all year and makes the other wrap around segments seem amazing.

Incomprehensibly bad in pretty much every way. None of the stories are even remotely as good as the worst story of the other two, and nothing even hints at being on par with Safe Haven. It's lazy, boring, and poorly done. Almost unwatchable.

The best segments here would have been filler in the previous two entries. I think I'm in the minority in saying I liked the other frame stories and found them effective, but I doubt I'm in the minority in hating Vicious Circles, a segment so muddled and so pat ("what if...going viral was bad? What if technology is evil?") that it very literally shoves whatever it's trying to say down someone's throat at the end. Elsewhere, a skeleton flips the bird and explodes. That's cool, I guess?

Steaming tripe; literal racist, sex-oriented, vapid, senseless garbage. A huge, irreparable insult to found footage and all film as a whole.

This third installment scrapes the bottom with weak, highschool level ideas. The only somewhat successful segment, involving a magician with actual magical capabilities, seems more like a lame Goosebumps short. Fun fact, that segment was thought up by producer/Bloody Disgusting editor Brad Miska... Which kinda says it all... VHS is just Bloody Disgusting (website-cum-production co) performing auto-fellatio to an empty climax, free of any substance or satisfaction. Save for their own.

The frame story has never been the highlight of the V/H/S/ films, but here it's a real weakness, never allowing the film to cohere into a whole. And none of the shorts here rises to the quality of the best segments in the first two, although Bonestorm was pretty fucking fun and Parallel Monsters more than worthy. (Dante the Great - ehhhh.) It says a lot about how much I enjoy the conceit that I still really dug this, but I'm hoping the next installment is a rebound.

This franchise, by definition, is hit-and-miss, but I dig it. V/H/S: VIRAL is the weirdest of the three by far, which is both good and bad. The framing story is stupid, but the middle three are all pretty cool and seem to share the same ugly, twisted, urban-misanthropic worldview. It's not so much scary as it is sinister and filled with evil; good Halloween viewing, in short. The segment about the magician with the possessed cape was my favorite.

The magician segment was pretty fun, but honestly it was just so corny and they threw everything together in a big orgy.

Pretty damn entertaining, I was never bored for a minute (even though the main storyline was weak) Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes, Open Windows) shines here with his short "Parallel Monsters". The guy just has an ability to hold your attention and keep you guessing in his films. I still want to know what they were gonna do with the bag of gore in the living room.

The first two shorts are Goosebumps episodes, and the third is a pretty good simulation of what a 'horror' film created by 13-year-old stoners would be like, which is to say it's a happily mindless mashup between an episode of Jackass and a round of Call of Duty: Zombies Mode. The second short is my favorite because it was the only one with any buildup of tension or dread. VHS 3 isn't awful but it sure aint good, a bit of a disappointment since I really liked the first 2 films in the series.

Again with the anthology. This one is a great addition to this series. However this one fails in comparison to its predecessors. Still a good movie, but I could've totally gone without the stupid magician.

The apotheosis of the V/H/S franchise connecting narrative, the three tapes are of very varying quality, one being visually fun, another a nightmarish trip and another a missed opportunity.

In the third installment of the VHS franchise, the frame story is pretty much indecipherable (something with a speeding ambulance), and they didn't even try to tie it together with the segments - they just cut back and forth, giving this a more fragmentary character than the others. As usual with the segments themselves, only one is salvageable; Benson and Moorhead's "Bonestorm", which pits teen skaters against masked cultists in Tijuana.

Probably the most consistent of the V/H/S movies, although none of the segments stands out as was the case in the previous installments. The wraparound is unfathomably terrible, though; it's at times meaningless or on the nose, and seems to take up half the runtime.

dnf - too weird, too silly. This movie was all over the place. Where its predecessors at least made some kind of sense, this just was a compilation of weird little movies - and not even good ones.

This installment replaces horror for humor and mostly hits. I was entertained throughout although the wraparound didn't feel fully realized and I really wish the missing segment was in there. Otherwise, it's a lean, funny, entertaining entry in the series.

This one was pretty much on par with the second one. "Viscious Circles" was stupid, poorly constructed, and made absolutely no goddamn sense. "Dante the Great" wasn't too bad, but didn't fit in with the rest of the movie at all. "Parallel Monsters" was definitely the best, with an interesting concept. I'm not sure if the final few minutes are awful or awesome, though. People seem to praise "Bonestorm", but if you told me it was made by 12-year-olds, I would believe you.

Hated the magician one, liked the alternate reality one, and loved Bonestorm. Didn't care for the bridge story, but much more effort was put into it at least. But when put next to its predecessors, the Bonestorm falls near the middle somewhere. Doesn't come close to VHS 2.

Decent premises, lazy execution across the board. This is the most nauseating use of shaky cam I have ever seen, without a doubt. Nothing to see here, I could point to every other horror anthology in existence as more deserving of your time and attention.

Dante The Great was just that Great, I loved the idea and enjoyed the short and I honestly would like to see a feature. 80/100 Parallel Monsters, This shit was stupid 40/100 Bonestorm, This one was ridiculous and not in a good way. 35/100 Vicious Circles, By far the worst short of the film and really sucks as the wrap-around. 30/100.

——Wraparound = cliche, amateur, juvenile garbage ——Dante the Great = This shit feels like it was made by that kid in high school who's way too into The Nightmare Before Christmas. Awful and embarrassing——Parallel Monsters = my favorite of Viral, not that the competition was stiff. It has an interesting premise and some fun ideas. Still nothing great——Bonestorm = Nonsense plot filled with weak acting, terrible special effects, and obnoxious editing.——Overall, Viral is the worst of the series
