I think you're all fucked in the head. We're ten hours from the fucking fun park and you want to bail out. Well I'll tell you something. This is no longer a vacation. It's a quest. It's a quest for fun. I'm gonna have fun and you're gonna have fun. We're all gonna have so much fucking fun we'll need plastic surgeory to remove our godamn smiles. You'll be whistling 'Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah' out of your assholes! I gotta be crazy! I'm on a pilgrimage to see a moose. Praise Marty Moose! Holy Shit!

Pretty much the quintessential early 80s comedy. Everything about it oozes with the spirit of the era, but whatever may have aged awkwardly, Chevy Chase's skill as a physical comedian is immortal. Definitely fun as hell. Also, when I first saw it as a little kid, Beverly D'Angelo gratuitous tits made my eyes explode out of my skull. Holiday roooaaaoAAAOoooOAAoooood!

I found this hilarious at one time but it just doesn't do it for me anymore. I think the repeated exposure has killed it off a bit. Still, Chase's rant towards the end when they want to turn around is one of my favorite movie monologues. "What do you think, Clark?" "I think you're all fucked in the head."

By far the best of all the National Lampoon's franchise. It didn't age well, but I'd put it among the top 10 comedic films to come out of the eighties.

It felt very much of its time, and therefore didn't have a huge impact on me now. I couldn't really call it funny because I didn't actually laugh properly at all, but it is a pretty likable movie. I like road movies too, so that did help. I did find it fun seeing a young Jane Krakowski and young(er) Eugene Levy.

National Lampoon's Vacation is a classic. I've seen this movie dozens of times probably and I've always enjoyed it. The comedy timing is perfect. Chase plays a perfect asshole. D'Angelo proves that she should have been a much bigger success whenever I see her in any of these movies. It's a sweet movie about a man who just wants to be closer to his family. This was the first time that I noticed 30 Rock's Jane Krakowski as Cousin Eddie's daughter. It's a near perfect movie.

Enjoyable comedy is too leisurely paced and episodic (especially in the mid-section), and lacks the clockwork efficiency of CHRISTMAS, but is still consistently amusing, with some genuine belly-laughs along the way, and a delightfully dark undertone which helps balances Chase's "all-American" nerdy Dad. Sequence with Quaid's repulsive Cousin Eddie is a stand-out; a reminder that in the 80s an ostensible 'family film' was still allowed to be quite racy in terms of the hard-edge of its humour.

Very memorable and fun to watch evey couple years. Not quite as good as Christmas Vacation but it has numerous laughs and touching moments. I think just about every American can relate to at least one part of this film I love the stop in East St. Louis. This movie also has some of the best opening and closing credits with the postcards and then pictures from their trip.

This movie starts off strong and peters out to its limp conclusion. This film like most other Chevy Chase films is more about random skits than a cohesive whole which is fine but the premise gets old and at least half of the skits fall flat or go on too long.

While Vacation is rather tame by today's standards, it's still a funny family road trip comedy that manages to rise above the flimsy nature of its material through amusing characters, committed performances and well timed gags. There are plenty of memorable lines and sequences, and Ramis' directorial touch is light enough to make the crudest of jokes work in an almost underhanded fashion. Chevy is the main attraction though, and Vacation is a pleasant reminder of his long lost talent.

I somehow caught the second half of Vacation on TV no less than five or six times without ever seeing the first half until now. I seemed to weirdly always turn it on at the exact same moment, right when the car goes flying through the air in the desert. The kids and aunt kind of suck, but the rest of the cast is good, and Chevy Chase is great with little moments of physical comedy.

This is fine. It took me a long time to see it, & I'm glad that I have, but I don't know that I'll be itching to come back to it soon. I guess I just didn't resonate all that much with Clark & his may-as-well-be-cheating, or animal murdering, or Aunt-Edna-porch-dumping. The character I liked the most was Ellen, who puts up with way too much shit & is also totally cool. John Candy's cameo was great. I laughed a bit, & it wasn't horrible or anything, but I just didn't see what's amazing about it.

It would have been nice if the tone of the opening credits sequence, with old postcards for visuals and a peppy pop-song parody by Lindsey Buckingham, could have been extended into the action. No such luck. It wouldn't have mattered anyway, however, once Chase was hired for the lead role. His idea of a satirical performance is to impress upon the viewer at all times that he himself, in his private life, is not a bit like the character he is supposed to portray.
