Veer-Zaara

Shahrukh and Preity share ZERO chemistry with one another but the movie is not ruined by this as it's engaging from start to finish. Unfortunately, the courtroom scene at the end is just too melodramatic and almost painful to watch. Overall, a sweet if slightly bland romance with Shahrukh not overacting nearly as much as usual and Preity looking pretty. Rani as Shahrukh's lawyer is practically forgettable here though. The music elevates it...a lot.

Music was its only plus point!

This is definitely a melodrama, which I'm fine with but the fact that the two romantic leads fail to have any chemistry hindered my enjoyment quite a bit. I loved seeing Amitabh Bachchan in his all too brief role. Shah Rukh Khan does well but the female lead Preity Zinta was very bland. The CGI bus scene was also one of the worst things I've seen in a long time. I'm not going to lie, I enjoyed this in a daytime Soap Opera kind of way.

There are some fantastic musical numbers, especially in the first half. What a shame they're wasted on such mediocre tripe. So lacking in subtlety that it's laughable, cliché after cliché. The courtroom drama features some the worst, most hackneyed writing I've ever seen. There are Lifetime movies with more sophistication than this. If the film could have maintained the charm of the first half, it would have earned a little more goodwill. But the charm gradually gives way to the horribly bland.

Visually a stunning movie thanks for the great Anil Mehta. Otherwise too cheesy for me and there is some holes in story. Veer is doing lot of dumb, badly explained choices and ends in jail.
