An incredibly crazy brave journalist.

Plod plod plod. It takes a particular kind of director to turn such an important and interesting story into a ploddingly awful damp teatowel of a film. The best thing about it is the ever excellent Father Todd Unctious, I mean Gerard McSorley.

This is quite a solid film, with a decent performance by Blanchett. It dates from 2003. I hadn't heard of it until now. I found the story compelling and moving by the end. Its maybe a little cliched, a film about drugs crime in Ireland, what hasn't been done before right? but its based on a true story and the cast give solid performances, which really helps. It felt genuine - I didn't personally know the people involved but I did feel engrossed in the story and I thought it was a well made film.

Movies based on true story, are usually either very well or badly. This one is rather good. Joel Schumacher style to bring true story live, is fascinating. Blachett does also well. Even if this is nothing directly do to with Guerin or this movie, journalists on these days don't "save the world", they make everybody feel miserable.
