Viva Las Vegas is one of the many Elvis movies that helped propel his career. These movies are the precursors for music videos. I've seen music videos that have more plot than this movie though. Of course there were some cute moments and the production behind the musical numbers was good, I just found the movie boring by modern standards. Who knows maybe it was boring at the time as well. It would be hard for me to recommend this movie to anyone but Elvis fans.

Ann Margaret, cool cars, and some Vegas-style Americana prove diverting but otherwise - a waste of time.

Plays like a movie-length TV variety show. Not the slightest correspondence with reality, but that was a lot of the fun of it. :)

A showcase for the music - and his co-star dancing and singing - but not a great work outside of that.

Kitschy trash, but mildly entertaining kitschy trash.

There's no chemistry and the story's so bland that even the film forgets about it for an hour in the middle. That's ok, though, because it's still fun to watch Elvis do his thing and Ann-Margret be pretty and the two singing and dancing both together and apart.

Elvis does the same stuff over and over, some of his movies are better than others, and this one is smack dab in the middle, not horrible by any means, but pretty flippin' bland. The saddest part is the best song in the movie was a solo by Ann-Margret, other than that and the one song "My Rival" it's all forgettable, and really nothing to fret over if you haven't seen it.

One of those "saw-only-parts-of-it-on-tv-when-you-were-a-kid" type thing. And for a reason.

The best part is when Elvis, grasping a champagne bottle at crotch height, pops the cork right in the face of his rival for the affection of the leading lady

Elvis and Ann-Margret are very good together. For once Elvis isn't surrounded by replaceable women, but is given someone his equal in sex appeal. And it works.
