I love the purgatorial sadness and the smooth camera, but it's just too damn slow. Knock this to a brisk poverty row 70 minutes and it'd be a second-tier classic.

Heavy on atmosphere! But the story kept plodding. In a way, the story was of such dark nature that the pacing probable had to be that way, and the strongly effective imagery fit this desperate tale well. Definitely a intriguing production, which shows the way forward for how low budget productions could overcome their limited means and still make a touching and worth-wild creation. This one was depressive and came across believable in it's attempt.

Ripley was a filmmaker of unique derangement, and this baffling, annoying, entrancing movie lingers longer and deeper in the memory than most good ones. Primo desperate copy on the poster.
