One of the most predictable movies I've ever seen.

A funny movie about the Peace Corps...which always struck me as highly unlikely.

Has a decent setup and promises for things to get crazy, but everything gets resolved without much going on. John Candy is barely in it and the romance feels incredibly forced.

Not one of Hanks better films.

Only good for John Candy as the fresh-faced young man as easily brainwashed by one ideology as another.

There are a handful of Hanks' comedies that are absolute classics and then there are those like Volunteers: bland, dull, and rather annoying. Hanks is completely unlikable which is now hard to imagine as he is the poster boy for pleasantry. I also enjoy John Candy, even in lesser work like this.
