VOYAGE OF TIME is a celebration of the earth, displaying the whole of time, from the birth of the universe to its final collapse. This film examines all that went to prepare the miracle that stands before us now. Science and spirit, birth and death, the grand cosmos and the minute life systems of our planet - all come together in Malick's most ambitious film to date. (wildbunch.biz)

Phenomenal footage and a nice message. Held back (in the non-IMAX version) by the ill-judged intercutting of the beautiful images that tell the story of our planet with grainy modern-day video that comes off as somewhat randomly selected.

An impressive technical feat with overall great filmmaking and a clear concise message. A film that just absorbs you and lets you define what you get out of it. This is a great film to watch with others and talk about how different people felt.

Malick once again shows the shock between what's beautiful and what's horrific in life. And once again he puts it into perspective with all things that exist inside the history of time (and this makes everything much more shocking). It always strikes me how Malick is able to suggest things without actually saying what he means. Great photography; the voice over is annoying. It's not just a hymn to life, it's also a hymn to the Creator.

Fun, not at all depressing, and totally understandable movie from Malick.

Some awesome shots (when they're not CGI), particularly the lava, but too painful to watch as an actual film, hence the fast-forwarding

The handheld footage does add something, balancing the light with some shadows à la TREE OF LIFE, giving a greater sense that reflection arises not just from wonder but from shock and dread, but the added running time also makes the viewer conscious of the superiority of KOYAANISQATSI. This female-narrated version places greater emphasis on "Mother", but since this is in large part code for God, it's not clear what conclusions should be drawn, if any. Effort expended, but still a missed chance.

Malick's always been more of a philosophical poet than a traditional Hollywood director. His films grapple with themes that've consumed great thinkers: our past, our place in the universe, and our future. So this experimental documentary film is a perfect outlet for him. Each image could be printed and installed as a piece of art. Every bit of voiceover narration could be read as poetry. It stumbles in the Dawn of Man section, but rebounds in an ending that gives hope for our existential crisis.

For me, it's huge disappointing. I may give another try on IMAX version.

If only Malick would delegate the writing and editing aspects of his films to someone else, he might pull off something watchable. This film absolutely has elements of stunning cinematography brilliance, but it's simply not enough to salvage the dull, anthropocentric, pretentious drivel that is the "Voyage of Time." I hate this film and would rather step in front of a train than have to watch it again.

I've tried to watch this in four different sittings. Couldn't finish it. It's just completely unwatchable for me. The narration by Blanchett is annoying, mostly because the writing is awful. The mixing of ugly hand-held camera footage with beautiful cinematographic shots is just not a good mix. I think Malick is a hack. The film does have some merit - I've seen the images created for this film used in much superior videos. That and the music with images are occasionally nice. Overall: bad.

For those who liked the "Creation" sequence from Malick's Tree of Life, this is the extended edition. A feast for the eyes and ears, but Blanchett's gravitas somewhat diminishes the wonder.
