The film develops into a series of very theatrical sequences which will tell the "story" of a man and his left hand.

Not sure I entirely knew what was going on but it had an eerie and odd feel to it the entire time so it hit the right atmosphere. Plus the ending was classy. "I dreamed I was a negro." Done.

Weird as shit, and comes off basically nonsensical (unless we interpret particular motifs according to already established familiarity with Ruiz). Alternatively, it can be viewed simply as an aesthetic marvel steeped in surrealism.

This stands as perhaps the most quintessentially incomprehensible film in Ruiz's vast filmography, which, considering the almost singular incoherence of much of his work, is saying quite a lot. Even so, it's far too brief and inconsequential to rank very highly in the grand scheme of things, even if it's a nice and amusing (albeit slight) bit of Ruiz-ian weirdness in and of itself. If nothing else, the peculiar and distinctive aesthetics are remarkably close to certain Mark Rappaport films.
