If you had bet me that they could make a news program complete with commercials look like it genuinely was recorded on VHS back in 1987, I would've told you I don't take stupid bets.

Nails the aesthetic, and that's about it. The special itself, despite being billed as the main attraction, is really just added scenery to the late-80s public access TV network aesthetic. While I applaud the film for doing this, it starts to become a slog to watch once the novelty wears off.

Tickles the fine line between boring as hell and hoots n hollers. The commercials are more interesting then the special itself.

More an act of fetishizing the '80s than making a movie.

Could have been so much more. The marketing and filming technique were right, but they should have played it more straight laced. The commercials become more of the movie than the actual 'story'.

It's as slow, boring, blue ballsy and frustratingly commercial-filled as an actual local newscast, which means the film knocks its premise out of the park. Had this come out in the mid-2000s it'd be a modern classic, but the proliferation of found footage over the past few years causes it to lose its edge almost entirely. Still worth a watch, if only for the fantastic commercials.

Heartbreakingly, abysmally disappointing. The premise combined with the first 20 minutes got my hopes sky high that I was about to see something truly original and wonderful. The cheesy 80s commercials were great, and the thought of them becoming interspersed with fucked up horrible shit got me really pumped. But then... nothing happens. The commercials continue, but the movie never budges. Then things get tedious, and the movie just ends. My god, to think what this could have been.

A horror movie for those of us who go on 80s commercial Youtube nostalgia deep dives It has some creepy bits, and the crappy independent local TV commercials are spot on, but it's no Ghostwatch (which is only slightly better, tbh).

It's a cool concept, it has a wry sense of humour and the filmmakers' enthusiasm and love for the idea and the aesthetic really shines through. But it overstays its welcome pretty quick. It doesn't take long for things to get repetitive and boring, and it doesn't do a very good job of being compelling or effective on a narrative level. Honestly, there are horror copypastas that pull off this kind of found-footage thing much better. I wanted to like this so bad, too!

Yey for carpet commercials and 1980s nostalgia. Solid horror flick.

This pretty much perfectly for what it was going for, for better or worse.

Love what they were going for. Nailed it for what it is and perfect amount of tongue and cheek that is straddles the line of totally fooling you if you didn't know any better. It could have been shorter but I feel that way about pretty much any film. The commercials were great. Ending could have been better, maybe painted themselves into a hole. This has made the Halloween rotation.
