I can't really put my finger on it, but there's something missing about this movie. David Strathaim and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are great, but the kid is a little bit too generic and almost too neutral in a lot of ways. The shots are okay, but they don't really pull you into the story. Not a bad movie if you want some calm vibes and want to experience some surrogate father/bad parent/sad kid runs from home -moods, but there are a lot of movies out there that have done all of this a whole lot better.
