When you sit there and really think about it, focusing an entire film around a chunk of wood probably wasn't the best idea. I didn't care for the two-by-four either.

The Rock can smell what's cooking! It's crystal meth and the burning of the American Dream, and he is pissed! Dwayne does what any small town American would do and picks up a large plank of wood (which strangely manages to out-act him for most of the film) and turns it into a weapon for liberty, justice, apple pie and the proliferation of firearms. Enjoyably rubbish.

Pretty bad movie. Lame plot, lame scenarios, invincible vet, pointless female lead, typical stupid courtroom scene. Awesome gimmick with the lumber. Fav scene: recognizing Cobie Smulders as "Exotic Beauty" in the car.

Middling but enjoyable action/revenge film is clearly designed as a launchpad for Johnson/The Rock's viability as an action star; tightly focused and compact storytelling helps, even if it feels a little truncated at the finale, and while Johnson is not at Arnie-level charisma, you feel he could hold his own in the Norris/Seagal grade. Improves on the original films by not dwelling on the dubious political underpinnings, instead focusing totally on the action.

It's not a bad action flick to be honest. There aren't gun fights or anything really but some good fist fights here and there. The movie itself is alright but not really all that good.

The Rock is a good actor, he just needs an outlet. He gets plenty of outlets to show he can kick ass in this remake of the cult classic by the same name. Not really much here but kicking ass and taking names.

a story about a guy coming back to his hometown from the army and he sees everything is awry, so he runs for sherrif to right the wrongs. cool stunts, along with some funny parts with knoxville, but not that many. doesn't have the highest rewatchability factor, but overall, it's a good movie worth seeing now and again.

It's ridiculous, ham-fisted, preposterous, and lightweight, but that was all rendered unimportant by the fact that I just plain like The Rock. He's fun to watch, and can elevate material that would seem generic otherwise.

It's 80s-style cheese, but The Rock demonstrates that in dead-end Steven Seagal style material, he still rises above those other stars in terms of charisma and character and proves he is quite certainly the man.

TBS plays this thing all the time, and I may be losing something to cable censorship and commercial breaks...but I doubt it. This is just a tacky, awful action flick, the kind of thing that went out of style in the 80s. A major step down for The Rock after scoring huge on The Rundown, though he and Knoxville nearly single-handedly make this watchable. Their chemistry is great, but that's all the movie has going for it. There's really nothing else of note here, it's laughable.

I band my dad listens to wrote a song about the guy this movie is based on. Seriously, he's such a wanker. This is in my top 5 worst movies of all time in my opinion, it is so ridiculous. I mean, hew carries around a plank of wood in his car instead of a gun because once he unneccessarily beat the crap out some corrupt workers in a casino in the name of the law, and he didn't work to the police. What?

I sat through this on cable. I actually thought the acting was good, The Rock is appealing and did a good job. Plot was overwrought with violence and extremes of good and evil. I looked up the story of the real police chief this movie is based on (via the 1973 original movie) and it's an interesting story.

Not a great movie by any stretch, but a fairly entertaining one and certainly the genre's seen plenty worse. The Rock is a charismatic and sympathetic lead in these sorts of movies, the action is well shot and the villain cast is filled with "oh, it's that guy"-actors like Michael Bowen, Kevin Durand och the terrifically despicable Neal McDonough. Also a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearence from a pre-HIMYM Cobie Smulders.

Great movie. It is about Chris (The Rock) trying to get his town back to the way it was before the mill shut down and casino came to town. With the casino came drugs too. Chris became the cop and started getting the drugs and drug dealers out of the town But when he tries there is a group of guys that would rather have him dead then to get rid of the drugs and the casino In this movie The Rock is an outstanding actor and I dont think they could have found a better person for this role.
