Wandering Ginza Butterfly 2: She-Cat Gambler
The Ginza Butterfly Nami is back and on the hunt for Hoshiden, the man who killed her gambler father when she was only a child. Arriving in Tokyo, Nami takes a job as a hostess in a swank Ginza club, all the while combing the back-alleys and gambling dens for news of Hoshiden's whereabouts. Local street entrepreneur Ryuji joins her in the search, and eventually in a bloody raid on the yakuza headquarters where Hoshiden--now living incognito, under an assumed name--is hiding out.

Standard 70s Yakuza flick, some humor, abuse of women, gambling, resolute revenge seeking hero, sacrificial side kicks, long bouts of drama followed by melodrama, climaxing in a 10 minute violent free for all. Meiko shows a little more rang here and Sonny Chiba gets to clown around and flex his acting muscles before showing his lethal side. Surprisingly the ending is slightly more upbeat than most other films in the genre.

This sequel trots out the well-worn revenge theme, but the odd cast of characters make it more interesting than it should be. Entertaining, but not entirely memorable.
