His photographs are undeniably great. However, as a person, he isn't overly interesting.

It's a good documentary, but it's almost undeniably boring. Don't get me wrong, the subject is interesting, the photographs are amazing, and there's some good monologues about the power of war photography, but it just doesn't feel like it needs a movie to deliver those monologues interspersed with photo montages. You're better off reading the man's wiki, and quotes from his webpage, then looking at his portfolio, and saving yourself 1.5 hours. Cause really, the photos are the best part of this.

The doc. it self isn't very good, but James Nachtwey mesmerizes you in the core. Things he has done, seen and went through are unbelievable. A must see but not for the doc., for Nachtwey.

Nachtwey's a bit full of himself and this documentary strays a bit too close to hagiography for my tastes. Still, he's one of the world's most talented photographers as well as one of the most storied. He's also engaged with the world in ways that most artists are not. Well worth a look.

Amazing photography with quite good insights to what it means to be a photojournalist in a war zone.

Often more about Nachtwey himself than what he does. Although from 2001, the documentary's already somewhat dated, a bit like the profession. Without context, still photographs are near useless, as evidenced by the ever more common tactic of taking photographs from an entirely unrelated conflict and using them as evidence for your own cause.
