War Requiem

Maybe this is fine filmmaking, but honestly I was just extremely bored by it.

Over-acting + religious latin + operatic warble =/= my bag

Some of the religious imagery might feel out of place, but I cannot criticise this; as a tribute to those who died in World War I it's perfect, emotionally powerful but with a sense of concern to it, linking real images of conflicts that took place afterwards (Vietnam etc.) to emphasise that the horror of war still takes place.

War Requiem estreava há 35 anos no Reino Unido. Meu problema com esse filme é que não há legendas para os poemas musicados do Wilfred Owen em qualquer língua, o que me fez perder o fio da meada entre música e imagem. Porém as imagens de Jarman são tão potentes que ainda dá para apreciar enormemente ainda na tradição do cinema inglês de Powell é Pressburger e posteriormente Ken Russell. YTS.

Enjoyed only Britten and documentary photos. Not my aesthetics I'm afraid.
