As a work of art, a critic's film, this is complete crap. But it's an action movie, it's made for people who don't give a shit about tracking shots, metaphors, and film theory. I really anticipated a dud here, I have no idea how closely it followed the games, but there's way way too much lore to fit into two hours and you can tell, because the movie glosses over details that I'm sure a WoW player would appreciate, but the movie is not bad, not at all, except for Ben Foster, he really sucks here.

It at least tries to be true to the source material, which means stock characters, genocide, and stuff happening because reasons. All the charm of a long, slow cinematic with a 'spot the reference' minigame for the MMO crowd. Most human actors are bland/terrible, the orcs were kinda decent. Also, would've liked it more if this was about 5 random dudes entering a dungeon where one promptly walks into walls and lets the healer die, with the rest arguing about who gets the tacky clothing they find.

An Orc throws a horse at someone and knocks out any knowledge I had of any character name or place or who cares it's stupid. Orc throws a horse at someone !!! One of the flattest , ugliest movies I've seen in forever and let me tell you something brother , I have nothing clever to add , this looked just as impressive as sitting in a basement at 4am clicking on mineral deposits to build something autistic to ostracize yourself from your friends and loved ones for a summer or five.

Hey, Duncan Jones! What an awesome world you've built! Got a story to go with it? Oh. I see. Usually you should make a good film before you lay all your chips on the franchise card. Of course, I hated the first two Harry Potter movies and enjoyed the rest so what do I know? Ben Foster is a perfect mix of Gandalf AND Saruman and looks like he's having fun. Travis Fimmel is like the Daniel Craig version of Tom Hiddleston. I just went from six to midnight.

Don't go into this expecting Lord of the Rings mmm kay? It's more like Lord of the Rings' retarded hillbilly cousin. However it is loads of good fun. It doesn't quite reach camp levels of fun but the action scenes and brutal orc on orc and orc on human violence makes this a worthwhile watch. An orc picks up an ENTIRE horse and throws it at someone. In the first 10 minutes there's also a pregnant orc and a sexy half orc if you care about such things..heh. There's also magic and stuff too.

Despite the insane editing and horrible casting, I actually liked the movie. Up until the scene in the canyon with Ben Foster using Raiden powers. Then it never recovers. I still wanted to give it a favorable score up until the last 20 minutes of Orc politics and the "Fuck you, a sequel's coming" conclusion. But I guess this is Blizzard at their most profitable without charging a monthly subscription.

Animation of the orcs and the subsequent encounters amongst them are Wacraft's strongest points. Too bad all the humans are all some of the most paper thin characters to ever exist. You can do a lot worse but its hardly a memorable tale, so why bother?

It's unapologetically an out-and-out fantasty B-movie, with little attempt to pander to the audience and get them up to speed on how all this works. Better yet it discards the "Hero's Journey" plot we've seen so many times before for a "Birth of a Nation" myth genre: instead of cowboys and indians trying to come to terms with each other we watch orcs and human knights. I was fully engaged, and would gladly turn out for a sequel.

Warcraft is a visual treat and it was clearly made with love but it's also muddled, messy and has characters that are lacking in enough personality or development to really propel the fairy middling story at its core. It's not a disaster, but Warcraft never quite enthralls the way that it should, and it completely fizzles out in the final twenty minutes. Not a bad film, but not one that is likely to convert non-fans.

the scenes without any cgi work incredibly well. sadly, there are none. the cast is mostly horrible, with macaulay culkin-wizard, fluff mustache padawan and uncharismatic wimp king on top. "hot-ork-whorecraft-girl" is just SO lame and lazy as a world-bonding stylistic device, it should hurt even hardcore drooling nerds. fimmel is about the only person showing any involvement while screaming, hacking and acting at bodysuits and greenscreens. can't wait for not paying to see the sequel.

Eventually it most definitely outstays its welcome (the third act falls flat on its belly), but all in all Warcraft plays like an 80s straight-to-video fantasy film that actually has the budget to deliver on the spectacles promised on the VHS cover art. And I can't hate that.

Faithful to a fault, Warcraft might be the first cinematic video game adaptation that fails because its filmmakers cared too much about the games they were adapting. The film is so crammed with lore, and so rigid in its construction, that there's no room for anything to breathe, and it takes forever to get to the fun bits. Warcraft looks great and it's been made with love and skill, but it's sad to say that it only infrequently even comes close to working.

Really generic fantasy.Mostly just scenes of exposition telling me what is happening or is about to happen, then followed by scenes like a cartoon with humans inserted. Considering the effects are ILM it's probably some of their worst work. Clearly rushed or on a tight budget,or both.

This movie was better than I expected. The acting was a bit stiff and fake, but I thought they did a beautiful job making the world, magic, and characters of Warcraft look real. To me, given how poorly they conveyed emotion, I think they would have been better off spending less time trying to convey emotion and more time in battles and glorious scenery. But I had fun.

This was a fairly middling fantasy film. It's not as bad as some such as Dungeons & Dragons and Legend of the Seeker but it's not Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones either. The fact that it's so middle of the road will make this a forgotten film. The human characters and actors seemed too pretty, young and soft. The Orc fare better but given the fact that non of the Orc sub plots matter in the end makes most of what you watched pointless.

I'm kinda torn between hating it with all passion for really, really poor work on the plot (no logic whatsoever, cliches & paper-thin characters abound) and liking it for almost everything else. Also let's not forget we've had to wait since 2001 and "Final Fantasy" debacle for somebody brave enough to try and make this seemingly obvious step of extending brilliant video game cinematics into a feature film.

Sometimes it's fun to look at the "Starring" credits on Criticker and see who they've got top billed. In this case it's Ben Foster, Clancy Brown, and Ruth Negga, and holy shit would this movie have been better with those three in major starring roles instead of that rod from Vikings. There are many attractive shades of green in this movie but mostly it is icky.

Once i got past the awkward direction full of disorienting cuts and not quite passable cgi that made my eyes strain...i was able to enjoy a serviceable high fantasy romp. I know nothing of the Warcraft lore, but would welcome another film. However, this seems like more of a tv pilot...with fast info dumos and plain characters begging for hours to breathe and be given depth. But that's high fantasy...hard to capture the essence in 2 hours.

I feel rather blessed, believe it or not, that I know virtually nothing about the lore. Allows me to approach this as its own movie. In terms of the elements of fantasy, this is everything that I wanted it to be; it's layered and interesting, with more than enough character and intrigue to keep me going. At the same time, it's imperfect; there are rushed and undercooked elements for sure, and more than a few. Performances could have been better. I think "generic" is an unfair criticism. See it!

The human plot is uninspiring, led as it is by a whinging, vanilla wizard and a static warrior character, but the orcs' story is quite compelling. Commitment to a bold visual style and strong CGI make this the right kind of in-the-end-rather-shallow fantasy film that's just fun to consume.

I'm an old school Blizzard gamer, stopped before World of Warcraft, so I expected a weird experience where I had no idea what was going on. I am not a big Warcraft fan - even though I do play a lot of video games. I am interested in the property, which led me to rent this movie. I thought that the movie was well done. The graphics, style, and setting all seemed to be cool. The story is good too. I like the Ork Chieftain and his attempt to save his people. As a big fan of Warcraft I honestly don't think they could have done a better job with the CGI. The effects, soundtracks and landscape was bloody fantastic! I'm not sure if I like the fact that Travis Fimmel played the main role.. He played exactly like his character in Vikings and it kind of pissed me off. Warcraft had the potential to, not just be a good video game film, but to be a good film in general. It hasn't reached that potential, but I will say it is still a very fun film. It's not as bad as some people portray it to be. The biggest problem it has is trying to fit too much info in it, which can confuse people not familiar with the lore. I'm not much familiar with it, but I still had fun. I honestly think this could be a decent series of films if they decide to continue making them.

Can't decide if it wants to be a tight character driven introduction to the world or a sweeping epic with a complex multifaceted narrative. Doesn't do enough setup or characterisation to get away with the barrage of fantasy nonsense & fails to present necessary context to make the conflicts very interesting. At least you can say it's trying & it doesn't come out as a purely vacuous or cynical dumb fodder. It's a real unfocussed mess though that mostly adds up to a ton of weightless CGI mayhem.

Honestly a pleasant surprise, essentially a B-movie with a budget which is probably my favorite kind of film. My only real gripe is that it's way too long at 2 hours. Vivid and engaging story and characters, as well as visual effects. Quite a bit too much sequel-setup for a film franchise which is this much of a gamble, but I hope it pays off. Oh man oh man is this movie a mess! I mean, I absolutely love how much it embraces its inner nerdiness (audiences can love this too if done well by the way - Game of Thrones does the same thing and was rewarded with becoming the most popular show on TV), and some of the visuals are beautiful. Assumes a pre-existing interest in the material, which is a pretty big mistake for a filmmaker to make. Its other fatal flaw is a lack of a real protagonist - there are several possible candidates but it never settles on one. This would be a huge problem in any genre of film but especially in fantasy, the whole point of which is immersion. It gives us no human entry point into its convoluted narrative and so no reason to care. It's just a bunch of stuff happening.

Lumbering and ugly fantasy film is a hideous mix of LOTR and GAME OF THRONES but lacks the wit and charm of either, even at their worst moments. Despite being flawed, Warcraft is an enjoyable, well-CG-animated, romp of a film. The film has a ton of potential, which it both squanders and realises In an interesting mix. I have two main problems with the film. First, the pace seems rushed, delivering the scope of scale but not time, almost as if a good half hour was cut. Second, some characters are a little flimsy and don't deliver as much snappy dialogue as they should have. However, Jones builds a great world and does justice to the game.

What happens when a true talent royally screws up an ambitious movie he's staking his reputation on? It'll look something like this massively expensive ($160 million) and mostly worthless film version of a role-playing video game that's been losing steam for half a decade. Why such hate? i mean it's not a masterpiece, it's not LOTR, but we can't always set the bar that high. It's a very enjoyable fantasy, well shooted and with a great pace, that it would be better with 30 minutes more to have exposition of the lore, character, story. Better than the Hobbit trilogy last episode, for example. This looks like another Lord Of The Rings franchise in the making. Not as good as that but watchable nonetheless.

Never played Warcraft (2016), so the my enthusiasm for this dull display of graphics wasn't exactly on fire. By lowering ones expectations it can come across okay, at least when there was some action, but neither the actors or the CGI impressed much.

WARCRAFT is neither coherent enough to be taken seriously nor relaxed enough to be fun, which means it's basically torpedoed after its initial mind-numbing expository info dump. Wonderful visuals and an intriguing subplot that fleshes out the world of the ostensible adversaries can't overcome disinterested, glazed-over performances and a bundle of fantasy cliches.

Passable with decent respect for existing lore. Some dramatic departures (final 25 minutes with Llane, for example) but overall completely watchable.

I'm a fan of World of Warcraft, and although I no longer play, it was fascinating to watch a movie set in some pretty familiar places.

It's ok. The usual story with some pretty good animation.

Even as someone who grew up on the RTS games (none of your fancy newfangled MMORPGing, you whippersnappers) I had no idea what was going on half the time or why I should care. I can only imagine what kind of horror this must be to the casual moviegoer.

I don't really care for the fantasy genre, and this is basically mindless pandering to fantasy fans.

What a positive surprise! Travis Fimmel is awful, but the rest of the film is silly fun and visually stunning. I want more!

Warcraft is the right kind of adaptation, presenting a great fantasy tale. Though, my lack of commitment to wow is obvious, as this movie is not particularly in my preferred taste.

Nice visuals and the world though the over-extended story was good for nothing. The beginning. Are we expected more of this nonsense?

Not a bad attempt for a first Blizzard movie actually! Some amazing CGI and good action. Only the story (and ending) was pretty crappy
