Assayas is rarely this unconvincing. Sad.

Disjointed, mostly lifeless, a bit too didactic and not enough stylish as an Assayas movie -- well, at least the jetfight and hotel bombings stuff seem nicely crafted. The cast is pretty talented and pretty much keeps the thing going to keep us interested.

This turned out to be a disappointment, despite a promising first hour that sets up various protagonists decently. But after a twist, that pulls everything we thought we knew about these characters out from under, the movie becomes more and more unfocused. Making it neither succeed as a spy thriller or as a character driven drama. The political message is also muddled as a result.
