They say that it takes a village to raise a child. This philosophy can also be used in this movie to express that it takes a community to raise a school back up from a disaster. This film is is truley as inspirational film. This film is about a high school and devoted community that looses its' beloved football team in a deadly plane crash. Only a few left behind players and a new coach remain. Through watchin this film one learns that giving up is not the ansewer.

Interesting and terrible story and all, but apart from what happened in real life, nothing really sets this one apart from dozens of other sports films... Well, except for Matthew McConaughey, but he alone can't save this film.

Not just another football movie or is inspirational sports movie. This movie is all about the emotion. If this movie doesn't tug at your heart or stir your emotions, you have neither. It dealt tastefully with a situation I could never imagine having to survive. It is made wonderfully. It balances the sad and joyous perfectly with a few light hearted and funny moments as well. SPECIAL NOTE: Watch the whole credits. There are real photos and films of the people portrayed.

A little too much of McConaughey talking out of the side of his mouth. Maybe too much of Dr. Jack Shephard fighting back tears. Also, maybe I'm a pitiless jerk.

In the theater, the techniques actors use to ensure applause at the end of a play is called "a claptrap". This film builds a mighty claptrap, from the death of the home team, to the hiring of a charismatic new coach, to the recruiting of new players, to the building of team spirit, to the BIG GAME. In the end, I couldn't resist. I followed the director's subliminal commands, jumped up from my couch, stood in front of my TV screen and applauded wildly. YAY MARSHALL!

Sports films of this kind tend to get to me, just throught he comraderie/brotherhood story aspects that you're bound to find. The directing was kind of sloppy, but the movie itself was solid and worked for me on several levels.

I was surprised at how emotionally complex this film was compared to most sports movies. I'm glad it broke that mould. McConaughey delivers a fun performance. It's also one of the quickest 2 hour movies around, and I compliment it for not making me check my watch.

Surprisingly mature film from the man behind Charlie's angels but unfortunately everything is covered in thick layer of cheese.

If you tend to enjoy tear-jerkers or football films, I think you'll like this one. Honestly, though, I wish there was a little more football. Since I enjoy football, I really want to see the football plays unfold the way you see them when you watch them on TV, but what you get is basically a lot of close-ups, the noise of contact, and jump-cuts to blurry action. It is exciting enough, but it isn't FOOTBALL. Of course, it doesn't want to be a football movie, so I sorta get that.

Not bad. Not great, but not bad. I think it was different than I'd expected. It wasn't a typical "sports hero" film like Rudy or the like. It focused more on the sadness and loss and how the characters were trying to cope and move on. So, for that it was a good movie, but I was expecting a sad beginning with an uplifting ending, and while it did get there, the movie was focused more on the loss than the getting back on one's feet.

I think this is one of the most amazing motivational movies which has ever produced by now. You know, if you want to find hope and courage and strength to fight, you have to watch movies like this.

I like sports movies even if they aren't very good. This was just poor in so many ways that I couldn't get into it. McG couldn't have a heavier hand and everyone seems to have at least one longing glance or emotional moment shortly before the plane crashed. The rest of the movie overexplains every part of every aspect of the plot and how the audience should be feeling. YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL ME TO BE SAD ABOUT A BUNCH OF KIDS DYING IN A PLANE CRASH!

Yep, the ordinary real life chronicle about football -- and also grief --, and McG delivers expected, obvious calls to achieve inspirational results. Quite heavy-handed, sometimes almost an exploitation film, but I guess it could've been way worse than this. Eventually, it's possible to find some true heart here.

The funniest thing about this film was watching it in a room with a couple of fat football fans. They spoke about the incident in hushed revered tones as if the zombies of Marshall U. would pop out of the ground if one were to utter a word of disdain about the film itself. This is a disaster movie whose target demographic is middle aged white male sports fans. Even though it's based on a real life incident it's formulaic in presentation and more or less a Hollywood tearjerker for men.

It tells the great and emotional story of the Marshall football team after losing 75 people in a plane crash. It's really good.

As someone who doesn't care about sports, it's a realy mystery to me why I get taken in by every single sappy , rah-rah sports drama that comes along. This one did feel a bit harsher, with a real-life tragedy at its core, although McG (director extraordinare) was definitely pulling some punches (75 people died here, the emotion you're looking for is not "wistful") but it was still quite emotional, in a more real sense than "Damn, I really want to win this game/tournament/farting competition!"

The only reason this movie doesn't get a zero is because it had a Cat Stevens song, and he's my favorite.

This is one of the good ones. Real heart thanks to the actors and the true to life story at its core. A film like this is an inspiration and a tragedy and it is hard to see it unfold. McConaughey balances the right amount of heart, charisma and grit needed to carry the message of the film.

Football movies are the bottom of the barrel as far as sports movies go. We Are Marshall is at least a certain brand of average that isn't quite boring but doesn't have the thematic depth to be considered a diamond in the rough. McConaughey is at least pretty good.

Matthew McConaughey puts in a decent performance in this sports film. Overall, the film was OK, although not as powerful as Remember the Titans.
