Only David Lynch could have me watching a monkey break into a torch song and not laugh but remain serious in my emotional monkey investment.

I laughed. I enjoyed it. I'm pretty sure this is exactly what Lynch's day-in-day out, self-talk, internal dialogue is like. Non-sequiturs and monkeys. Thanks for inviting us, Mr. Lynch, it was a trip. Attempted to get the wife to watch with me. ("It's only 17 minutes, babe!") She lasted about 90 seconds before she was bewildered and uncomfortable. Fair enough, I knew it was a high gamble she'd see a Lynch film through.

With scratchy black-and-white photography and an exchange of stilted tropes and euphemisms, we ascribe a sort of old-timey nostalgia to this short whodunnit. Just as we ascribe a range of emotions to the wide-eyed stare of this monkey, and as we ascribe humor to these unsettling, completely absurd images Lynch is able to conjure.

Waste of time. Doesn't really go anywhere. I wonder how this would've been received if it wasn't made by David Lynch.

Some directors are weird, some directors are funny, some directors are touching, some directors are horrifying, no others are all of those things at once. Anyway there's a moment here where a monkey bursts into song about his lost flame, a chicken, which was the best piece he ever had. It's great.

The whole time I was trying to figure out how Jack's dialogue was written; by A.I., by a drug-addled poet, by accident? Inconclusive, but I didn't have enough time to think about it between laughs. The timing of everything, the responses, the unpredictability of Jack's gesticulation and "dialogue"; it's just...great.

Hey dog we gonna go to the club to pick up some girls. "Nah man I'm cool, just gonna stay home and...chill with my monkey" - David Lynch

Loved the use of dialogue cliches. Not his best work, but a decently fun Lynchian spin on Noir.

Lovely atmosphere and witty dialogue. What else did you expect? Meaning? Purpose?

Kinda like the Sideshow Bob 'rake' scene this is quite funny initially, then becomes unfunny but hangs in there committed to it's shtick long enough that you can't help but come round to it again.

Isso é ótimo, não ria tanto com uma comédia noir nonsense desde Cliente Morto Não Paga. WEBRip NTG.

So... That was weird. Please make another real movie, Mr. Lynch.

People seem to dig this and I'm a fan of Lynch as well, but this didn't do it for me. The weirdness of the mouth on the monkey didn't work for me at all and took me out a bit. The surrealist dialogue was not as funny or as interesting as I expected it to be. I enjoyed the noir/old film aesthetic, even if not much was done with it. Like the premise, enjoyed the end, but the rest of it--including the song--just left me cold.

Fragmented, cliched, nonsensical, and not funny.

David Lynch interrogates a monkey. Yes, that's exactly as it sounds. Weird, surreal and full of nonsense proverbs. Fun for Lynch people.

Okay, I watched it twice just to understand something and it makes sense now. Yeah it is a classic David Lynch "wtf" dialogues and over used cliches but feels so good.

I couldn't get it out of my head, that it is the very David Lynch himself who is talking as Jack. The Pronunciation and distances between the words... gave him away.

It doesn't work. David Lynch doesn't know how to make comedy. That's the truth of it.
