I find the fascination with Alice in Wonderland particularly troublesome for extreme remakes, but isn't it time we agree that if it has to be done it should be titled Phallus in Wonderland?

The parallels with Alice in Wonderland were clever and the characters were intriguing, with Mastroianni's being great, as well as Polanski in the role of Mosquito with his porno-moustache was hilarious, but some of his lines were disturbing, taking into account his later personal life. The film left me feeling that Polanski had a masterpiece in his mind while making it; a masterpiece that only he could see. Or maybe he deliberately made the film a 90-minute nonsense, art for the sake of art?

Nothing to really think about, just enjoyable nonsense.

Tedious, nonsensical and slightly surreal. I should probably rate it a zero, but there is something there underneath this mess that I can’t quite identify.

Movies like these (vaguely surrealist romps that have nothing to say and nowhere to go) always make me think that the Panic Movement was right back in the day. Certainly Mastroianni is the man and this has a few nice shots and amusing bits here and there, but it's so fucking tame, it all just leans to the tedious side.

Polanski's Alice in Wonderland reimagining feels kind of like he's channeling Bunuel, but unfortunately I'm not a big fan of a lot of Bunuel, and I really wasn't a fan of this. The production and set design is excellent and it held my interest at first, but as it moves on it gets more and more tedious until I couldn't wait for it to end. Shockingly bad for a Polanski.
