What a great music movie with songs of Tina Turner. I did not know she had a husband who was a real jerk, not normal. Despite of that I found the music-scenes awesome !!!!

I discovered later that I was right to think there were moments when the filmmakers were contriving things for maximum impact (the rape scene & the final scene w/ the gun. In real life, Tina was armed herself - as any sane person would be). The film also tends to always present Tina as an innocent in terms of her other relationships (e.g. she'd never sleep w/ a married man). Despite all that, the 2 leads are fantastic &the film avoids becoming a Lifetime movie bc the abuse always feels shocking.

Very much in the mold of the stereotypical musician biopic but it's one of the best. Bassett & Fishburne are excellent and all the domestic violence parts are harrowing. I loved their walk through the hotel lobby in the aftermath of the limo scene.

Good performances with a good soundtrack. The script feels a bit lifetimeish at times but this can be overlooked and still enjoyed.

A film highlighting domestic abuse, this features strong performances from Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne. I imagine it was edited, the version I saw recorded on BBC2 lasted 1h49 and I note the domestic abuse portrayed was somewhat fleeting - perhaps just as well in terms of me being able to stomach it but I believe things were even worse for 'Tina' than what was depicted. I liked the significance of Buddhist chants and spirirtuality.

What's Love Got to Do With It" begins perfectly. It presents Anna Mae Bullock (Rae'ven Kelly) as a shy little country girl singing with a church choir. The song is "This Little Light of Mine," and Anna Mae is letting her own light shine a lot more brightly than the choirmistress wants it to. This girl can't help herself. She has a natural talent. It's a gift that will save her from poverty and obscurity, turn her into the world-famous musical dynamo known as Tina Turner, and place her in the clu

More terrifying than many horror movies, What's Love Got to Do With It is a somewhat cliche story of domestic violence and the emotional toll it takes.

Angela Basset and Lawrence Fishburne are both giving masterclasses in acting. Angela Basset is perfection in this movie. The whole thing is stunning and heart breaking.

30 anos. This film seems like countless other biopics but what makes it worth watching is the performance by Angela Bassett. Bassett's great performance is what makes this story. Overall I would recommend this film.

Iconic performances from Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne highlight this solid biopic, which captures the essence and energy of Tina Turner's early life and career. Over time, it's become more notable as an unflinching mainstream portrayal of domestic violence than as a drama, which speaks both to the pervasiveness of the issue in our society and its relative invisibility in the culture.
