Antiquated views on relationships and an extremely tame spring break depicted. Hard to believe it wasn't just a sanitized version for the censors. Good acting. I suppose I can imagine a bygone era of clean fun. Completely fails the Bechdel test. After-school special outcome w/promiscuous Mimieux. Very male-centered despite female leads. Knock-off Marilyn got assaulted by the annoying talkative guy but still loved him. Fav scene: Connie Francis' song.

The greatest beach party film ever made. Where most beach party films are light, pointless time killers, there's something different about this one. It's warm, engaging, funny, and it ultimately subverts its carefree exterior with genuine tragedy. A beautiful movie.

Rating this in terms of how enjoyable it was as a fascinating glimpse of history, not how ethical it is or how it holds up to modern scrutiny. SPOILERS. Connie Francis is gorgeous & the running gag was how no one was attracted to her until she threw herself at a total broke misanthropic loser who had to be blind before he'd date her. Girl gets raped & her #1 worry is that no man will have her now. The men aren't ALL 100% horrible, however.
