A reporter hears that a famous actress is dying in a hospital after being hit by a car. She goes to the hospital to interview the actress, who tells the reporter that her wealthy fiance, who was killed in an accident several years before, was actually murdered. Whispering City (1947) is something as rare as a Canadian feature film from the period Hollywood was the dominant film institution North America. And they hook in Paul Lukas as the big name, along with Helmut Dantine & Mary Anderson in the main roles. To me, the film struggles to come to life. While it got some chilling scenes, it doesn't know what to do for the more boring parts. And since that's most of the movie, that's the impression I'm left with.
