Whistle Down the Wind

All the children give charmingly natural performances and the religious themes, touched lightly, deepen and enrich the film without overwhelming it. Hayley Mills is very good in this.

A very endearing and light-hearted movie. As the children mistake a fugitive for Jesus we see their simple faith as they show their love for him. And I was feeling that in their loving this man they were truly loving Jesus, as the Good Book says. I appreciated that the film was not so heavy handed as to have the man turn a completely new leaf, but he was definitely not left unchanged. And the kids were really adorable.

Expertly walks the line between lighearted, innocent, and humorous, and wistful, bleak, and melancholic.

Estreava há 60 anos em Londres. Não sei se essa era a intenção, mas esse filme me parece a perfeita metáfora da crença no divino como ilusão na fantasia infantil, as crianças fazem tanto malabarismo para acreditar naquele homem como a entidade Jesus que é impossível não visualizar o mesmo malabarismo que os adultos fazem para crer num ente mágico, até a dúvida é exemplificada na pele do garoto que perde sua fé pelo fato de Jesus não ter cuidado e salvo o seu gatinho. Great film.

A nice little allegory adapted by a book from Mills' mother Mary Hayley Bell. It contrasts the naïve, rather straightforward with the more cynical, world-centered views of adults, including the local vicar whose more concerned with going on about the theft of church property than answering Mills' religious questions. Several events in the film mirror events in the Bible.
