Call it a guilty pleasure if you must, but I don't feel bad about liking it. Plus, Rosie Perez has one of my favorite lines ever: "If I'm thirsty. I don't want a glass of water, I want you to sympathize. I want you to say, 'Gloria, I too know what it feels like to be thirsty. I too have had a dry mouth.' I want you to connect with me through sharing and understanding the concept of dry mouthedness."

A masterpiece of shit-talking and selling wolf tickets. Sovereign Citizen Wesley Snipes was the man, once upon a time. What I have to say about young Rosie Perez has no business being in a Criticker review.

WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP may look like a sports movie, but it's really about relationships, resourcefulness, and the all-consuming competitive forces that govern American life, whether we are up to it or not. Much like its bullshitting protagonists, it can't feign authenticity for long--nor does it try--but it certainly knows how to put on a show. It's also a wonderful cultural document that pinpoints the exact moment that the '80s turned into the '90s.

I play basketball and I am white. I can confirm we rarely can jump. We are super great at nailing hook shots from absurd lengths to get our girlfriend's on Jeopardy though.

"White Men Can't Jump" is a captivating sports film that explores sports culture and competitiveness. The storytelling and character development create an engaging movie with a unique perspective on winning and losing. Memorable dialogue and cast chemistry, particularly between Woody Harrelson and Rosie Perez, add depth and authenticity. However, the film has its shortcomings, with uneven pacing and a focus on darker competition aspects that detract from moments expected in sports films.

I enjoyed all the basketball hustling and the Woody / Wesley chemistry for sure. Everyone knows 90s interracial conflict comedy is the best interracial conflict comedy (80s and 00s are good too, but 90s is the sweet spot). It gets a bit too longwinded with non-basketball tangents and relationship stuff at the end though; went from very energetic beginning to a final stretch where I was ready for it to end.

Not a bad choice even if you're not into basketball. Great one-liners. The only thing that bothered me is that neither of them explained the robbery to Gloria at the end. I think she'd have been on-board.

A buddy sports movie that's easy to like. Not heaps funny, if it's meant to be a comedy, as the tone is quite light, but I still found myself getting really invested in these two characters, helped by their great acting (Snipes had some great roles in the early '90s). Not only is this friendship convincing, so is the romance with the Perez character, who offers a great feminine counterpart to these dudes.I guess the whole Jeopardy! story tangent is too tangential, but at least still fun to watch

This is at times an amusing and a laidback, fun watch. I wouldn't say its a film you can have on in the background and not pay much attention to it to still follow it but its still laidback in tone. I liked the main characters and I thought both Snipes and Harrleson got on well on screen and Rosie Perez also gives a decent performance. I also liked the music played - some street/urban songs, also some soul and rock classics (Jimmi Hendrix, Boyz II Men, Ray Charles and the O'Jays). I recommend it

Starts as an amusing riff on THE HUSTLER for the world of basketball, while quickly developing on its own terms into one of the more interesting examples of the "odd-couple" comedy; Harrelson and Snipes are a perfectly match bantering pair, and Perez nearly steals the film from under them as Harrelson's by turns abrasive and endearing girlfriend. Film eventually finds its own delightful rhythms, taking the plot every which way in charmingly unpredictable ways. A charming, refreshing surprise.

White Men Can't Jump can be regarded as nothing more than a guilty pleasure. Realistically this is nothingness of a film and I have no interest in basketball of little else on offer. But I do enjoy Woody Harrelson & Wesley Snipes together here. And to be fare Woody Harrelson in particular gives a decent performance and he carries the film. Otherwise I do struggle to understand what it is I like about this film. Maybe it's just the great title alone. Either way, I've watched this film many times.

So much fun, so well-paced, so bouncy and compelling. Jumping from the comedic swindling to the genuine exploration of racial tension then heading right back to that hilarious Rosie Perez subplot, the Snipes-Harrelson chemistry building the whole way.. I dig it a whole lot.

I think the story of the film takes too many turns - a little bit of trimming and slightly more focus on the interplay between Woody and Wesley would have helped the film a lot. As much as a sports comedy doesn't necessarily have to be realistic, some of the plot twists and aspects - largely with Rosie Perez et al - don't really seem to fit with the rest of the movie, which is at it's best when the two leads mostly engage in verbal one-upmanship. The actual basketball is shot really well too.

Hey I thought it was pretty damn fun, but I may be biased as a basketball fan. In fact though, not only was it fun, but the direction was quality, taking a page out of Spike Lee's book in the way it captures everyday life in its populated scenes. Yeah the story is predictable, but the leads are great and the screenplay is original enough. You gotta "hear" this movie, you can't just watch it!

This movie has Harrelson with tax-cheating Snipes as basketball hustlers who find themselves bickering about nothing and playing basketball now and then.Throw in annoyingly nasal Rosie Perez who is Harrelson's long suffering girlfriend .oh, just happens to be a quiz show aspirant and future Jeopardy champion.Fuck off! I would call it a modern classic, but I would be lying. Though White Men Can't Jump is sometimes funny, the lack of seriousness toward racial tensions is actually a little annoying. It's not a rude film, per se, it just kind of missed a chance to make a unique and respectable film. As is, it's only worth seeing to watch Snipes and Harrelson shoot some hoops with impressive aptitudes. Ugh!
