People have always searched for a way to communicate with the other side - fascinated, motivated, driven to find a way to connect with loved ones who have passed on. A rough draft for what might potentially be a good film if all of the plot holes were filled in, and the sloppier moments could be ironed out.

Watchable nonsense starts by almost successfully fusing GHOST with THE SIXTH SENSE (and that’s not giving anything away); there's a compelling emotional set-up and Keaton brings some style to what is an unusually “everyman” role for him. It is once McNeice is no longer useful that the derisive laughs start, as the film winds up and up into the winds of hysteria, leading to a low-key and baffling finale. Side note: why does the convoluted set-up of a son with the first wife go absolutely nowhere?

The cast all turn in fine performances given what they've got to work with, and the narrative does have its moments here and there. But, that's not really enough. A slow and meandering pace combined with characters that just aren't interesting enough and a plot that never bothers to explain what its rules are, as well as an ending that's just horrid, kills it. Given the subject matter, it could and should have been pretty cool. Ultimately, though, it's just underwhelming.

At first, it's a sad and intriguing thriller, then it gets weirder and weirder. I totally understand the main hero, but the ending... feels odd. Well, the whole idea of communication is interesting, together with introducing the old mentor and slow mental making off anyway, but it kinda lacks something. They could, i.e., expand the wife's or these beings' subject. On the other hand, I like the kid's reaction and main hero's actions - they seem mostly reasonable. I'm confused on this one.

Although it might have an interesting central idea, the whole film is drenched under the weight of cut corners and poor performances plus delivery. Keaton feels severely below his usual standard, although he might still manage to drag some unworkable scenes through the gloopy depths of the muddled and once quite promising plotline. Eventually the film reveals itself, falling back on cheap shocks and feigned suspense over matters which really have no irrelevance other than superfluous padding.

Interesting premise, and I've always been terribly fascinated with the ways in which people attempt to pacify themselves through communication (or implied communication) with the afterlife (whatever they believe the afterlife to be). Kind of a let-down, the ending was all fizzle, acting was pretty sub-par. But I don't think anyone was expecting Oscars from this one.

Hats off to the people that made the trailer for this. They made it look exciting, intriguing and something inspired by, but set apart from, The Ring. The movie however is the complete opposite of all these things. The plot is so loosely tied together the film is simply ruined. The only scares you have are crappy "jump-out" scares. Totally skip this, even if you like Michael Keaton like I do.

Another weak movie that tries to cash in on the 'paranormal' craze that struct over the past few years. While I cannot write a fair review of this movie because I fell asleep during most of movie (This should tell you something!), the plot of the film felt extremely weak on thin-ice, the acting was very ho-hum and direction felt lost at times. Unless you're forced to watch this movie by a parent, I cannot see anyone willingly trying to watch this.

This movie had a lot of potential. The trailers scared the hell out of me. But what made this movie frightening was the idea that it could really happen, that if you listened closely to static you might be able to hear the voices of the dead. Then they end the movie by having some ghosts busts out and start kicking ass. It was just too much and ruined the movie for me.
