Nature's strongest force is the will to survive. That's a hard-learned lesson in this true story about a noble mission turned into disaster. In the early 1960s, Capt. Christopher Sheldon (Jeff Bridges) operates the sailboat Albatross as a floating school for troubled teen boys needing discipline. But a chance encounter with a freak storm offers a traumatic and troubling education in life and death.

As long as the sight of a ton of young men with their shirts off doesn't distract you, then you might enjoy this movie about, uh, a boat or something.

Besides being a completionist in regards to Ridley Scott, the only reason I watched this was because of all the QAnon references plucked from this movie (notably "where we go one, we go all") by whoever kicked that fun business off. As to the actual film, it's basically Dead Poet's Society/the end of Scent of a Woman on a boat with added homoeroticism.

A well acted drama/adventure that made a lasting impression upon the adults of this household.

Terrible overblown theatrical drama is the only thing ruining this otherwise very fine and enjoyable movie.

Ultra slow paced film is raised by a likeable cast.

Ridley Scott in the coming-of-age business is not that satisfying, but still manages to keep me interested. It's not as much the true story, but rather the very beautiful cinematography and good score. Bridges' character Captain Sheldon is awesome. *Okay

I really did NOT like it at all. Acting sucked, directing was ok, but you can't have the boat and the storm be your leading role. Those are inanimates, not people! The story drifted to and fro like the boat.

It plays almost like an emotional exploitation film, but it is also nicely crafted and handed, with some good nature scenes and vibrant performances from the entire cast.

A relatively slow movie but not bad in anyway really.

A nice film. It does nothing spectacular, but the cast and script are solid, and its an entertaining coming of age movie, with a touch of emotion.

Kind of cheesy but it holds the same sort of feel good coming of age emotion that something like 'Dead Poets Society' does.

White Squall is perfectly alright male bonding movie where a bunch of young adults go out to sea and learn to become men. Nothing revolutionary in the writing, but the scenery is beautiful and the guys handsome filling their parts well. Didn't like the ending court scene. A cringe worthy cliché! But besides that it's an fine intimate movie.

When I was little, I thought this movie was the most bad-ass thing ever and, for some reason, it made me want to go to sea.
