Well whaddayaknow, it still holds up! Worth a look just to enjoy the craft and love that went into this, and there's some great stuff in here that blew my kid mind at the time. Cartoons that can legitimately die, often horribly. All the 'physical' toon interactions. The Daffy vs Donald piano-off. The film noir tropes. Jessica Rabbit, hoo boy. The drinkin' and shootin' and oh god Christopher Lloyd as the perfect cartoon villain. And as a bonus: a car driving a car.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit takes rotoscope to a new level. This buddy comedy starring Bob Hoskins is great for everyone. It's gut-bustingly funny, irresistibly charming, and uncontrollably rewatchable. Hoskins, an actor from the UK, astounds viewers with his uncanny LA accent and his surly attitude. Plblblbleease see it! Awesome!

A major technical achievement by any standard, and really entertaining to boot. Though maybe too scary (or sexy) for young kids (Jessica Rabbit has the power to kick-start puberty for any boy, gay or straight), this movie speaks directly to the sick and twisted inner child of nostalgic adults.

Chinatown meets Looney Tunes. The technical achievement is remarkable, but the script and atmosphere aren't half bad either. Kids movies these days rarely have this much verve or creativity. Also, the part where Judge Doom melts the toon shoe traumatized as a little kid.

So the two of them are handcuffed, and they go through quite a bit because of it, until Hoskins tries to saw the cuffs off. He can't keep the chain steady to saw through so he asks for Roger's help, who slips his hand out of the cuffs and holds it steady. When Hoskins angrily asks, "You could have taken these off at any time?" Roger responds, "No, only when it was funny." Awesome. I think I have a cousin like that.

Mixing two of my absolute favourite things in the world (cartoons and film noir), it would be near impossible for me to not love this movie. That it's a great film in its own right is simply a bonus. Borrowing its plot from a third Jake Gittes film that never got made, Zemeckis' film is a masterful balancing act in style and tone, sliding seamlessly between the zany hilarity of animation and the suave cool of noir. This many years later and the reality/animation interactions still look stunning.

It's a well made film and an impressive technical achievement. It isn't quite my kind of thing, though. You might say that it doesn't quite `ring my bell`. It just isn't quite `up my alley`. I enjoyed watching it, but it just isn't quite `my cup of tea`. It simply doesn't quite `light my fire`. In fact, you could say that even though I `like it`, it isn't the sort of film that gets me particularly `excited`. I `quite` like it, `though`. `!`

Made me want to do sick, nasty, twisted things to an animated character. But enough about how I want to rape Roger Rabbit in the mouth, wasn't that Jessica Rabbit a saucy, curvy piece of pencil mileage?

Queerly enough, film noir is a genre that filmmakers love to intermix, and thus, it's met sci-fi, musical, high school - even children. This time it's a cartoon mashup, well executed by the boundary seeking tech-wizz, Robert Zemeckis. From a technical stand-point it stands as an impressive accomplishment (which merits a watch in it's own right), and whilst one can argue story complexity vs. something-for-the-kids, it's a better idea than mixing 'toons and, say, Michael Jordan.

A technical masterpiece that combines outrageous toon silliness and neo-noir suspense in an almost perfect way, though I wish it would have sided a little more on the noir aspect. Plus Christopher LLoyd was downright scary to me as a child.

This is really excellent, even 30 years later. The way live-action was blended with animation still looks awesome today, I love that there is WB and Disney characters in there together, and really it's just a solid film noir with a few genuinely funny moments... but even when it's not funny it's still charming and entertaining.

Surprisingly enjoyable, the animation really is amazing. There's a very eclectic mix of styles from silly cartoon humor to dark noirish elements but, while they mix together pretty well, some of the silly parts were a bit too much.

It's almost as if someone intentionally picked the most random genres and decided to mix them. "Let's go with noir, and, uh, cartoons. Yeah!" Still, it's very nostalgia-inducing, and it actually works pretty well.

Technically groundbreaking for its time, W.F.R.R's mix of live action and animation was mind blowing on release and hasn't been bettered, even if some aspects have inevitably dated. It harks back to an era when family films weren't babyish and contained darker elements. The noirish plot has plenty of twists and turns and moves at a brisk pace, while Hoskins is just right as a grizzled detective who hates toons. Roger Rabbit is a hilariously original creation. Ppppppweeeze make a sequel!

Not bad. The interaction between the animated characters and the human characters is done really well - the cartoons look and act as if they have real weight and presence, and the humans don't look as if they're acting opposite a green screen. I liked the pastiche of noir archetypes, but the rest was a bit loud and frantic for me. Roger was just plain unbearable... Jessica, on the other hand...

I know a lot of people claim that this is the film that began their sexual awakening; whereas, for me, this is probably the movie that kicked off a life long love of film noir. And, nostalgia aside, it still holds up as a pretty solid noir, as well as being a solid comedy. Watching it as an adult, I am just in awe of everything they were able to do on a technical level. One of the rare films that flawlessly pulls off its gimmick and has a story that lives up to its potential.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a one-of-a-kind triumph. The combination of golden-age cartoons, neo-noir trappings, intensely dark humor, and horrific imagery combine to make one of the most memorable and distinct blockbusters of all time. Wonderful concept, wonderful execution. The animation/live-action blend is seamless, and the clash between the two worlds provides a bottomless well of great gags. The fact that this features so many classic Disney and WB characters feels miraculous given the climate surrounding intellectual property rights these days, but it pays off big time. And any movie that pays loving homage to noir - particularly Chinatown - is a winner in my book. Admittedly, runs a bit long, but oh well.

Another film from my childhood, this does not completely live up to the quality it had when I was a kid, but it still has some magic. Bringing together live action and some of the most established animated characters from history together, it is a remarkable achievement. In some ways it is better in places, as a film that is more for adults, especially in the innuendo, and references to crime fiction and film noir, and a tribute to the 2D artform that is still funny and enjoyable.

The title character is possibly the most obnoxious character since Jar Jar Binks. He's inexplicably married to the sexiest woman in all animation, Jessica Rabbit. No matter how many cartoon and live action characters you cram into the plot, you're stuck with a story about the hyper motor mouthed Roger Rabbit. Why anyone thought a story about a cartoon town should be based on this unloveable character is a mystery only known to the author.

WFRR probably achieves the mix of animation and live-action the best it has been done and that's especially impressive considering it's one of the first to do it(and it still holds up!) and because of that the film radiates energy and cartoonish fun. But, by the time I got around to it I had seen a lot of what is done here before, so a lot of it left me unimpressed and felt quite predictable and run-of-the-mill.Christopher Lloyd, though,is as usual, awesome.

My biggest problem is the ultimate culprit has a beef that is never explained, nor is the reason for offing his initial victim. Also, most of the movie, we seen toons (who compared to humans essentially have super powers, since they can't be injured or die) interact in a human world. As evidenced by super-hero movies, that combination works well. What works less well though is the final act in which we see an ordinary joe go into the toon world...it's just less fun (at least, for adult viewers).

The interactions between toons and actors still play pretty good, as well as most of the parts of this tricky noirish plot, but Roger Rabbit, mostly an adult-oriented and seductive ride, still works as Zemecki's love letter to the TV fantasies and detective stories that raised his naive but often careful sense of storytelling through special effects.

Were there live-action and animation movies before this? Yes, but none blended the elements of toon and live-action so seamlessly, and none dealt with subjects of murder, sex, and blackmail. Despite this, it keeps a fair level of light-heartedness and fun, and the cameos of 1947 and earlier cartoon stars are countless. (Bit of trivia: Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote came in '49, but they bent the rules.) Bob Hoskins is fantastic as Valiant.

Excellent. Blends animation and live-action perfectly, to the point where 25 years on it doesn't look dated - everything in this movie, animated or not, is a cartoon. Calls back not just to cartoons of days gone by but to the whole Golden Age of Hollywood, with an excellent spoof of film noir, blended with some fantastic setpieces, slapstick, and amazingly risque jokes. The plot feels like it sets things up too slowly and resolves them too quickly, but the sheer charm lets you look past it.

Not quite as good as it once was but remaining a worthy addition to anyone's collection, Roger Rabbit is an oft-forgotten but enjoyable flick that brings together live-action, animation, film noir and knowing references to 'toon greats of bygone times. The attention to detail (with every frame painstakingly painted one-by-one after filming wrapped) can still be appreciated almost a quarter of a century on, even if the humour (loud and silly) has started to wane.
