lovely movie, all the leads were great

Nice subdued natural coming of age movie.

The Director, Andre Techine, says the story is based on his own memories. He shows characters in the middle of political and personal upheaval. The character of the Communist teacher is important because she brings her feelings about the Algerian war into the classroom, causing her students to question government policy at the same time they question their own values. We get to see how handsome Gael Morel, as actor is. A must see for all lovers of coming of age films.

A decent film with strong performances but faults here and there. The relationship between Francois and Serge is easily the most involving of the storylines but it feels somewhat discarded amongst the rest of the stories, none of which are ever terribly fascinating. The score also kind of bugged me -- it seemed a bit too classical. Regardless, a strong film.
