Wild Seed

Low-key character study in the lovers-on-the-lam mould notable for a lack of 'lam' -- this initially creates a lack of urgency, but film becomes more involving and moving as it progresses. Parks delivers a magnificent, haunting performance, channelling a mix of Brando and Eastwood; Kaye has a less interesting damsel in distress role, but she does wonders with what she is given. Cops out somewhat with an ending which is not conventionally 'happy', but is too upbeat, given what has come before.
