More astonishing than an eight year later rip-off of "The Birds" only with rats is how someone thought this movie deserved a sequel, and how thirty years later someone thought it deserved a remake. Davison is creepy as all get out, in the kind of way that a socially maladjusted mama's boy is, but that's not to say he, or the movie in general, is scary. Borgnine is good, but his character is infuriating, obviously intentionally.

I'm surprised this movie is well-remembered enough for anyone to have thought of remaking it. I like Bruce Davison's performance (he's always good), but this movie is basically silly

Plays like a weirdly wicked TV movie, with lots of funny old ladies and oddly Disney touches early on. Davison is quite devout and good (and certainly at ease with vermin!) and I don't think I've ever seen Ernie Borgnine as good in a role. Indeed, the whole cast did quite a job. The cat sequence was most amusing. Had to crack up at the elevator thing for Lancaster on the stairs (presumably a sly wink in the direction of Witness For the Prosecution).

Love this character and scenario. Probably prefer the remake for Glover and the gothic panache but the third act here is obviously superior for the pains it takes to put the viewer in Ben (a rat!)'s place.

AHHHHHH! It's that guy who turns into water in X-Men...that was driving me mad. Anyway, this is mad. It should probably be more horrific and less silly than it is, but is quietly effective in its own way. Davison is good in his role, and Borgnine is his usual self. An oddity.

Modest, rather unusual suspenser which builds well after a slow start; only horrifying to people who can't stand rats.

Well acted, but handled with all the flair of a TV movie.

This kinda brings a whole new light to the Dr. Doolittle thing...or whatever.

The best part of this is the great poster. Otherwise, everything about this is absolute trash, and none of it feels remotely intentional or well-considered.

An attempt at Gothic horror updated to the 1970s that works well enough over its 90-minute running length, but falls well-short of 'must-see status'. Ernest Borgnine is effective, as always. The summary should point out it was based on a novel. In their day, both book and film achieved cult status among fifth graders, if memory serves correctly.

Takes a little while for the story to get moving but the humor is enough to pull you through along with the young Davison going toe-to-toe with the likes of Lanchester and Borgnine. Their performances are some of their career bests! Needed much more interplay with Locke though. The rat shots are excellent throughout and the final act is worth the slow build. Highly Recommended.

DVD Versátil Obras-Primas do Terror Volume 7.

Considerably better than the remake. Just like the 2003 re-imagining, Willard is a viscerally driven movie. Likewise, it fails at everything else it tries to do.

I never thought I could feel such contempt toward an Ernest Borgnine character until he mauled that adorable rat to death.
