Who else goes through the cycle of looking up what kumpels ranked a favorite childhood movie, only to immediately google 'How to kill people and get away with it'? How about the annoying installation of the Tor browser and the whole 'WTF is bitcoin' reaction to trying to place an order for anthrax on the Silk Road? Googling 'What is a Bitcoin', checking your GPU and deciding that 'Arh… they're not bad guys'? I'm asking for a young Joanne Whalley.

MIDGET VILLAGE, VAL KILMER BEING AWESOME, HOT EVIL PRINCESS, "USE THE WAND WILLOW!" "WE MUST SAVE ELORA DANAN!" WHY DO I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH, I DON'T KNOW BUT IT IS AWESOME. I don't care how much this rating will fuck up my TCIs or whatever, fuck people if they don't love this movie the way I do. Seriously, given the choice between watching lotr or Willow, I'd go with Willow 9 times out of 10.

It might not be mindblowing, but will always have a special place in my recently transplanted monkey heart. Two headed fire breathing fleshmound-beasts? Those freaky warthog hounds? An army turning into pigs? Yeah baby!

The fantasy genre must be a tough genre. Until Jackson's LoTR came out, you could count the number of great fantasy movies on one hand. Willow happens to be one of them. Decent performances from all, decents effects for the age of the film and a wonderful fantasy story. Good for the kids too!

Nostalgic action epic from Lucas that I still love to this day. Val Kilmer's character is similar to Solo's as far as delivering the little quips of Lucas humor, but he's great to watch and obviously one of the most talented actors of his time. An early role for him just before he entered his prime. I'd recommend this to kids mainly, but if you love fantasy epics, this is up your alley.

Willow was spawned in the midst of George Lucas being denied when he wanted to make a Lord of the Rings film. It turned out all right in the end, as who knows what the LoTR movies would be with Lucas in charge. Willow, a fantasy film with non-hobbit little people turned out to be a delightful new concept with a good balance between seriousness and fun on top of some surprisingly excellent action and a hilarious/awesome Val Kilmer. Really good!

An insanely fun late 80s fantasy flick. You've got your epic prophecies, your big battles, swordfights, love potions, a dragon, trolls, magic spells, an evil witch, and killer special effects for the day. But what makes it work in a huge way is the Frodo Baggins-inspired everyman main character thrust into the adventure against his will to lead us through it all. No 80s uberhulk here, and that makes it endearing. I must have watched it a hundred times as a kid.

Perhaps this might mean more to me if I had seen it in the 80s. As it stands a first time viewing in a post Peter Jackson's LOTR world shines a really harsh light on Willow's glaring attempt to rip off Tolkien's source material. Further to this the acting is dreadful, the fx are terribly dated and the action choreography woeful. But, it's clearly a kids film and everyone involved here gives it their all and the end result is cheesy but fast moving and exciting for tiny minds.

Not a very subtle rip off of Lord of the Rings. The technology wasn't there to make hobbits so what do we get? A town full of little people. However... charming enough to be watchable. Practical enough to age reasonably well. Compelling enough for a Disney+ spin off? I'll never know.

The first teaser-trailer for this George Lucas production echoed an actual line of dialogue in it (or perhaps vice versa): "Forget all you know, or think you know." Which, when heard in the larger context, comes to sound rather like a plea than a piece of advice.

Howard and Lucas succeed about halfway in their attempt to resuscitate the moribund fantasy genre by offering a nonstop procession of cleverly conceived stunt work, action, and special effects. But the plot grinds toward its inevitable resolution so mechanically that every event seems preordained.

Pretty cheesy swords and sorcery film which clearly wanted to be lord of the rings back in the day but failed. I still remember the Burger King tie-ins with this. It's not exactly an atrocious film and I have to give it credit for having the balls to cast a real midget in the lead. It's just not very compelling and totally formulaic. The effects are also horrendously dated in this.

Willow doesn't feel like your typical "high fantasy" movie. It felt very much like its own world instead of a world ripped off of Tolkien. The heroes of the film were rather unlikely heroes as well. One is the eponymous Willow, an "Elwood," which is kinda like a dwarf, played by Warwick Davis. The other hero is Mad Martigan, a thief who is freed by Willow, played by Val Kilmer. These heroes are very different from your typical heroes, and that's one way I can describe Willow: atypical.

There was nothing about this movie overly bad. It was just a little hard to follow. Also, given the info, I expected a completely different ending. The main reason this movie was just so-so was because the baby crying all the time got extremely annoying. I understand a baby in distress is supposed to cry but it just became grating.
