This occupies a space in what I'm calling the Netflix 70s, films that are low-tier good and belong on a streaming service where it takes no effort to just put it on and have a pretty good time. The cast is fine, the script/dialogue never really takes off, which is a problem for a thriller. Did you know that life isn't fair? This movie does, but it doesn't tell us that in any substantial way. The ending was a little surprising. If the rest of the film was like that it might even be great.

Renting a vacation home? Have you seen anything by Quentin Tarantino? Are you vaguely aware of American socioeconomic disparities? You, too, can make a movie!

Probably makes the worst case for female empowerment by favoring opportunism over righteousness...but whatever, it's just so much edgier this way *yawn*.

Why are movies so afraid to let us see Jessie Plemmons getting his face bashed to a pulp. It’s what we want

Good cast/acting, setting and premise, but the result is banal derivative and somewhat idiotic.

Is budget the only thing keeping this from being officially labelled mumblecore? It reminded me of The One I Love minus the interesting hook. Not really bad but I've gotten more excited about Taco Tuesdays.

Plemons delivers probably one of his best acting performances yet--just absolutely blistering stuff. All that said, the script feels too much like Coen Brothers meets Home Alone meets Don Delillo's Cosmopolis. So it's fine, it's watchable but ultimately feels like a kind of protracted mimicry that doesn't quite lead to anything meaningful. And it's like I get the point it's making, but to quote Segel's character, "I don't fucking care."

If you're going to write a character driven movie where almost nothing happens, at least make sure your characters are somewhat interesting or relatable and do not exist sorely for you to make some laughably amateurish social commentary.

It's not a very exciting film, but it's not bad either. Slow and dark, I enjoyed it the way it was but it could have easily been condensed in an hour of runtime or less. Felt some Hitchcocky and Coeny vibes at time, there could have been more to it though.

Simple but entertaining. You never quite get the full story but it doesn't really matter.

I just really like Jason Segel it can’t be helped. Him and Plemons actually had some good back fourths. Lost it when they started watching Three Amigos. Very much like a classic noir movie but obviously not as good as that “genre” can be. Some like vagueness about class relations/family spats. The dynamics in a relationship culminating in a violent ending.

The material is certainly stretched thin to reach feature length. It feels like the script is constantly going "Shit, what now? They- they talk about, um... their favorite colors. Yeah, that'll eat up some time." It's a decent if overly simple little pandemic thriller (as in it was made during the pandemic, not about a pandemic) but is largely forgettable

Kinda dull attempt of home invasion home wrong little flick with a surprise finale. Good cast, but who cares about anything going on here. At least it's a story about a billionaire slowly getting fucked.

I love simple, elegant movies. Straightforward film, decent acting, interesting story and well shot. You don’t need much else.

Kara komedi. Filmin sonunda, Lily Collins. Ay nasıl ferahladım?

A nice, tense, character drama that was fun to watch, if not particularly revelatory.

It really wants the audience to think the villain is actually the good guy, and it won't stop throwing all the middlebrow bullshit the director and screenwriters could think up to try to sell that idea. An unintentionally hilarious twist almost improves the movie, almost, but just makes it worse when the narrative tries to sell it as some sort of catharsis. Ultimately, its only saving grace is the acting; and even so it's nothing to write home about.

Low-key misdirection mystery with a message. Says little about inequality in society, but a lot more about the inequalities in our relationships.

While “Windfall” has a good idea at its heart, it ultimately falls flat due to its slow pace and heavy-handed commentary. However, the standout performance from Jesse Plemons and the intense ending make it worth watching for those who can stick it out.

Good for a one time watch ( I really can't see any reason to re-watch this kind of film) A simplistic tale with a slight touch of Coen Bros. and quality acting. This is one of those movies where you'll forget you've seen it five years later.

Didn't hate it like most of these comments I'm seeing on movie mate/trakt. It was at times very slow, of course. Directors would use the term "deliberately paced" hehe. I don't mind a slow burn, but it wasn't perfect. A one-time watch. Enjoyed the acting for the most part. 6.2. Good, but not really close to great.

There are only a few interesting details, along with lazy characterization, in Windfall. Which is a shame for a movie containing talented actors and striving for intimacy.
