A young German wife simply ups and leaves her hubby and young daughter for a spell of existential wandering in helmer Ulrich Koehler's sophomore feature, "Windows on Monday." Light drama is a largely successful continuation of themes in Koehler's "Bungalow" (2002), though here (apart from one serious stumble) the dramatic dividends are greater, thanks to a more adult cast led by the fine Isabelle Menke. Further fest play and Eurotube outings are indicated. (variety.com)

Minimalistic filmmaking at its best. It's impressive how one gets a sense of what is going through the characters' minds even though we are told so little.

While in many ways coming across like an above-average albeit fairly typical piece of arthouse ennui, much like Kohler's previous film Bungalow, the director nonetheless manages to ultimately differentiate himself somewhat from his more pro forma Berliner Schule peers by adopting a distinctly elliptical formal presentation which seems to owe as much to Pialat as it does to the more expected glacial Antonioni-isms, creating an interesting hybrid of sorts.
