Wing Chun

Yuen Woo-Ping gets sloppy in places and the film lacks any real sense of escalation. I still found it charming and funny, with some stellar kung fu action and the weirdest love pentagon I've ever seen. Yuen King-Tan's quirky, over-the-top performance ultimately makes the film.

The story is a little on the thin side and the central conflict seems kinda insignificant in the grand scheme of things. That being said, it's an excellent example of rapid fire early 90s kung fu starring the charismatic Michelle Yeoh.

Half martial arts film, half Shakespearean love pentagon comedy. Not something that would appeal to me usually, but both aspects work well here. The fights are fun and well contextualized, even if they lack in the wow factor. The story's kind of silly, but at least Yeoh's character is a very good one and she carries the film and it's feminist subtext very well.

I started watching it thinking it was an action comedy but half way through I gave up after seeing precious little action and some aggressively stupid comedy
