Winter Sleepers

My German friend recommended this movie just as I happened to be running out of conversation topics my German friend and I could share (the Oktoberfest and Nazi fount having run dry). She told me it was the inspiration for Memento. I told her that if a guy with short term memory loss makes your movie the inspiration to Memento, then there's an episode of Who's the Boss that was the inspiration for Winter Sleepers. Needless to say, our conversation soon drifted back to Oktoberfest and Nazis.

Typisch Tykwer a la Kieslowski. Liked it.

A film much more conventional than _Run Lola Run_ from Tykwer that still works

"Winterschläfer" alt title, see Memento is you like this film. Memento uses a basic premise from this film.

Sometimes sumptuously shot (a couple distracting spining shots) interesting story that reveals well. The soundtrack is occasionally distracting & the pacing is winter slow.

Not really sure what to make of this. Plot is interesting enough as such, maybe it was the slow pacing that put me off a little. Still: There is no denying Tykwer's sense of creating images that are nice to look at. But it does lack the energy of 'Lola Rennt'.

Really cool direction. Really liked Matthes' performance. Really long movie.
