An at-once sobering and uplifting coming-of-age drama from David Leland, in my view one of the greatest screenwriters of his generation. Cursed with good looks and receptive to courtship, Lynda runs afoul of men who exploit her and a domineering and judgmental father. She makes naive mistakes, but instead of collapsing, reveals an independent sense of self-worth and a fighting spirit through which she perseveres and matures. A lovable and inspirational character, well played by Emily Lloyd.
