This is a Sherlock Holmes story with a difference. Here Dr Watson is the ace detective and has been using an actor to play the part Holmes. Holmes is a drunken actor and gets on Watson's nerves. When Watson tries to go it alone, he doesn't have much success, so he is forced to let Holmes take all the credit once more. (imdb)

Pretty wonderful. There's something somewhat carthartic about watching this version of the usually so superior and annoyingly arrogant Holmes make a complete fool of himself, and the premise (that he is merely an actor to whom a brilliant Watson feeds all his deductions) is amazing. With a better plot this would've deserved to be a classic, but the fantastic performances from and the very funny interplay between the bumbling Caine and a never-cooler Kingsley do make it a weirdly overlooked gem.

Silly and perfectly harmless crime comedy. Has the feel of one of those films where the cast seem to have obviously had a good time making it.

A competent, even if not specatacular, comedy that will keep you entertained.

Sherlock trolling Watson. Not real Sherlock Holmes film as such, and neither his parody but something in between.

Not a highlight of anyone's career but enjoyable enough for an evening on the couch.

It's an interesting take on the Sherlock Holmes story, and very funny too. Caine and Kingsley have great fun with it.

Hilarious twist on the Holmes franchise made better by the lack of Guy Ritchie.
