Film opens on December 18, 1999, just a few days before the dawn of the new century. A local reporter, Iron Idem, announces that the Martians have landed. Shortly after that his program loses its independence: he is given the script telling the crowds how to welcome the invaders. Then the chaos breaks out: the Martians and police mistreat the populace; things become violent. (imdb)

An attack not just on television but on its use as a means for conjuring imaginary demons and hence for justifying authoritarianism, this has a kind of hysterical Kafkaesque tone, but could probably have done with less symbolism and more analysis. Nevertheless, the final scene is rather effective.

Brilliant story about how television creates what we perceive as reality. Even though it was made under communist regime it's still as actual even if we live in supposedly free and democratic country.

Good effort to create an elevated genre film, perhaps loosely relatable to New Hollywood, just lacking any real depth or incisiveness. Early in the film the 'head of TV station' guy (Dmochowski) is reiterating the party line to Idem, and he says "responsibility, fear and discipline are all the same thing," which is at least food for thought.
