A lot of the wit is lost in the translation, but I would think if you don't know any Spanish it would still be enjoyable. Otherwise it's an excellent parody of Spanish telenovellas that's over-the-top enough to be hilarious, but still vaguely believable.

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is one of Spain's finest to offer and it's a wonderful, bright and enthusiastic comedy farce. Almodovar has cemented his legacy in the long line of film, and his legend will never die.

This was a wonderful, lively, colorful farce in the tradition of screwball comedy. Almodovar has a marvelous flair for comic situations and quirky but wholly believable characters. It's also great to see Antonio Banderas in these early roles where he plays off-kilter (and sometimes nebbishy) types.

Probably the best early Almodóvar, an enjoyable comedy centred around likeable female characters. Compared with some of his other efforts during this period, this movie does not come across as trying too hard to be "outrageous."

My college Spanish teacher introduced me to this film, and I'm very glad she did. Truly a wild ride.

A fairly crappy telenovella-like sort of thing that purports to be, but isn't funny. I honestly don't get the fascination with this soaporama.

It somehow feels like a Billy Wilder film, but less textually brilliant and more visually appealing. It's wonderful in parts but lacks a certain sense of authenticity. I love Rossie de Palma!

this is the first time almodovar had his name heard worldwide, nominated for oscar and grabbed lots of prestigious awards. you can see all the footprints of his cinema in this one: women, relationships, lies, schemes, colorful environment and else... great comedy.

"Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios" is a deliciously surreal farce by Almodóvar. It's certainly a minor and rather unremarkable film, but its manic energy, memorable characters and odd situations are enough to make it a very enjoyable 90-minute ride. The writing is crisp, the acting strong and the direction skillful -the use of vibrant colors is impressive in particular.

A soap opera's plot turned into almost a hitchcokian picture, it's finely acted and directed. The broken romance between these two voice actors is presented just by recorded conversations -- which is a brilliant way to show the characters' ties --, and the supporting cast is also splendid.

Extravagant (and extravagantly self-conscious) melodrama, supremely stylized with some of the absolute greatest production design i have ever seen. Deliciously campy, but with a deeply sincere empathy for it's characters. I kind of just want to live in this world.

With an interesting plot, a good cast and typical style, "Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios" is a good if uneven film - engaging at first, it seems to run out of steam after the first half, and picks up towards the end to reach a finale of cult momentum.

Flamboyant, funny farce by Almodovar is as fast paced and hectic as anything he has ever done, but is also far more disciplined than many of his 80s efforts; the direction is incredibly creative at times, utilising some camera angles that hark back to Leone (of all people!) and incorporating a very Hermann-ish score for the dramatic moments. Maura is sensational in the lead, and Banderas is very amusing in an atypical role as a repressed nerd (!). Great fun.

an entertaining, well-made little film of coincidence, and, as it progresses, madness. not hilarious but frequently amusing, and pedro's eye-popping colour is gorgeous. however, it definitely doesn't deserve the huge critical acclaim heaped upon it, as it's basically just an entertaining story peppered with melodramatic shenanigans, and its farcical qualities do become rather silly. still, it's not bad.

I'm a bit embarrassed that it took me far too long to realize that this wasn't a drama; it was a comedy masquerading as a soap opera. The black humor vacillates from subtle to over-the-top. The performances are generally good, so I may have to revisit this one when I'm feeling a bit more catty.

Filled with excellent little moments in a very fast pace. Eclectic characters and wonderful scene and costume composition. The earliest of Almodovar's films I've seen so far and it's interesting to see roots or what has become of director in 30 years. Everything is more refined now, feels a lot less chaotic. Great movie, time passes like crazy, really unique piece.

This is a lot like watching a Lubitsch film; it's an absolute breeze but has no dramatic weight and never makes me laugh out loud. Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! made me wonder why Antonio Banderas was considered attractive, but this taught me why. What a difference a haircut can make

You need to be in the right mindset to appreciate certain movies. This I didn't appreciate at all -unless I'm missing on some meta commentary about this genre-. Felt like a TV movie at times. Still has its moments but eh.

Very good! It’s kind of an ideal movie in many ways. It’s legitimately funny, thought-provoking, quick-paced and really well acted. Carmen Maura is stellar, but I also loved all of the supporting ladies as well. Plus, a young Antonio Banderas? So cute! It is a very gorgeous-looking movie too. I embraced the chaos and ended up having a really good time with it. Great from beginning to end.

Amusing Spanish comedy that gets more and more absurd as it builds. Antonio Banderas is impossibly young in this to the point where he is almost unrecognizable. While much of it is clever, there aren't many big laughs, which hurts it a bit as a comedy for me, but I was interested to see how it turned out and it was a pretty fun time.
