There's little wonder in the working-class lives of Bill, Eileen, and their three grown daughters. They're lonely Londoners. Nadia, a cafe waitress, places personal ads, looking for love; Debbie, a single mom, entertains men at the hair salon after hours; her son spends part of the weekend with her ex, a man with a hair-trigger temper. Molly is expecting her first baby and its father acts as if the responsibility is too much for him... (imdb)

Top badass moment? The realisation that most people are boring and just a little bit pathetic - it's what makes reality TV so popular. Fortunately most of us don’t realise we are. Personally I’ve always imagined myself to be totally awesome, but in reality I’m about as noteworthy as a raindrop on a pavement, ephemeral and with zero significance. And actually, I’m fine with that. This film allows us to wallow in the humdrum lives of three people for a bit. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

The terrible picture quality is on par with the terrible story, script, editing and acting. I could not find anything to enjoy about this.

The film is grainy, mostly handheld that gives it a voyeuristic and often claustrophobic feel. By the end, there is a sense of contentment despite the knowledge that not all problems are solved. The three central performances are quite good, as is Nyman's glorious score. I was generally engaged, though I wish there had been a few more transcendent scenes where it really clicked. But it's an excellent movie that explores our inner turmoil, need for connections, and precious moments of joy.
